99 Tall coil color code question

I just got some 99 tall coils for my Wife's 97.

The color code for the rears I thought were supposed to be "yellow and red".
When they came in yesterday, one was "yellow and red" the other "green and red"
Both have the same stock # on the sticker.
Do I have a problem here, or did someone just put the wrong color on the spring? Does it really matter?

The dealership says "don't go by the colors, we don't. Just go by the part # on the sticker"

Yes, they show the same part number on the stickers.

are they the same by visual inspection? part numbers tend to be the way things go, if they have the same number of wraps you should be good to go, as the '99 tall springs are visually taller then other coils, so it's nothing todo with spring rate, just over all height, if they sit level to each other i say throw them in...


fyi this isn't always true with every coil, some coils will actually give you a lift by having a stiffer spring rate and will look visually the same when compared to each other, but when you put them on one will compress more then the other,
i hope that makes sense....

in this case since the 4runner 3rd gen springs all have the same rate visually inspecting them should be fine

I bought them online from Fort Bend Toyota ( Texas ) ONLINE.
The pricing is only good ordering from: Fort Bend Parts

I ordered each spring seperately to be under the max weight for free shipping, so it was free shipping, and no tax.
Total for all 4 springs $291.86

To look up / verify the part numbers, I went online to Autotrader and found a 99 Highlander. Got the vin. and used that # to check everything out.

Get ready for sticker shock at your local dealer (unless you have an "in") and I do. My source could not beat this price. Not to mention since I do not live in Texas, I had no tax to pay. All that adds up! I saved quite a bundle.

Front right 48131-35400 $81.35
Front left 48131-35350 $88.57
Rears ( same for both ) 48231-35210 $60.97 ea.

Depends on your truck.

These are going on my Wife's 97 4x4, so from what I have read, it should raise her truck 1" over stock height for a 97.

Sonoran Steel has a good listing of how much the 99 springs will raise what year truck.

Well......
I ordered the springs almost a month ago. One was on back order for a long time before they shipped all 4. Just got them in the mail Tuesday ( 3-9-10 ).

About a week after I ordered the springs, we found out my Wife has cancer.
Sooooo.....my spare time is in short supply right now to swap in the new springs and shocks.

I do not know when I will get to the install, but when I do, I will post up pictures, heights before & after, etc... and how it rides

I have not measured the heights, but eyeballing them, they look the same ( see the pix ).

Your welcome for the Dealer info. I did a lot of research before ordering. I hate to undercut anyone ( Son. Ste. ) but money is money, and times are tight. The price on the parts were very close. It was the shipping cost that made the real difference.

I have a friend who I wheel with who has a an off road parts store online. He has offered to cut me deals, but I am consistantly able to find major savings elsewhere that he would loose money matching. I have not bought anything from him & I feel bad about it.
Maybe when $$$ isn't so tight I can fork over the extra coin just to help a brotha out.

I noticed also on their site there is now a min. $75 order for free shipping. It was $50 I believe when I placed my order.

I think they changed those after my order because of how I ordered the 4 springs.
They had a max of 30 lb. for free shipping and I did not want to go over.
I ordered EACH spring seperately.

Now,you will need to order at least 2 rears together. I doubt you will go over the wieght limit as they went ahead and put all 4 in the same box. It was labled at 35 lb.

They are really nice people and I would not hesitate to order from them again ( of course they would still have to have the best price ).

if anybody can help...i just ordered the rear 99 tall coils online and got an email back asking me to provide vin#. i have a 97 2wd so im not going to give them my vin#. any ideas on how to get around this. im sure they are trying to verify that the springs are factory matched. somehow i need to give them a vin#. anybody without a 99 order the springs and how did you get thru it?????
