'99 talls

1996 Hilux Surf (JDM 4Runner), Right-hand drive.

I'm looking at doing a suspension replacement, with 99 talls and Bilstein 4600s on the front.

I've found the part numbers for '99 talls on this site, however, if I understand correctly, these are biased towards a left-hand drive US market model, whereas I have RHD.

Are the springs made such that I could just swap them from one side to another if I bought US market '99 tall front springs? Or would that not work?

I don't think the '99 JDMs have such high springs as the '99 US market 4Runners...

Springs for LHD 4runners are made to account for having the driver, fuel tank and battery all on the left hand side. So I guess in your case, you'll need to figure out if your weight is well balanced left to right. However you decide to do it, the springs are interchangeable between left and right, but you would be best off speaking with someone else who is RHD JDM in terms of which side you should have the taller springs on.

If you can't get it balanced well, then you could just get an OME trim packer to level things left to right.

Thanks for your reply. Makes sense! I noticed that the difference between left and right springs on the Japanese '99 models is far less.

So on the LH side, I have the battery and tank, on the right hand side myself (driver), the exhaust system and the JDM swing-out spare wheel carrier. My guess would be that those things mean the RH side is a touch heavier.

I guess it will be a case of seeing how the truck sits...
