99 turbo runner

so i started this project in the summer of 2012 but i have been cut short on my project ever time i start in on it again, i owned this 4runner and a 97 5vz tacoma 5 speed and i ended up selling my tacoma when i joined the military, i kept my 4runner since it was more practical and when i got out of the military i asked my self "am i ever going to sell this thing?" after i got that out of the way i decided that i wanted to upgrade but buying the supercharger wasn't an option for me, i wanted to do something different,i did a lot of looking around and found the cat back STS system for the tacoma but i didn't want a cat back, so i decided that i wanted to go full custom, i talked to a few tuner shops, got a built list and went from there, what i ended up with a year lated was a fully built cryogenically frozen 5vz-fe ported and polished, 8.5:1 compression bored motor with forged pistons, i had the trans built at a tranny shop (i don't mess with trannys), intercooled, turbo 4runner. there is a lot to list but all i have is the pics i took while i was building and tabbing, i have a detailed list of every part and price i paid for the entire thing but it will take a long time because i am in the middle of a move…(just moved to scottsdale AZ if anyone live in the area. i still have my 4runner to bring down in the next few months but i can answer any questions you have about the build

Beautiful craftsmanship. I hope you have a blanket on that and have the pipes wrapped with it being so close to the intake piping.

Ladies and gentlemen... Do you all see what he did here? This is how you add a turbo to a vehicle. You put it with the engine via manifold. Not at the opposite end where the muffler goes.

Looks good man but I'm wanting to see more pictures of this along with some info on what parts you used.

Very nice, very clean build. Power bumped a bit for sure, at 18psi I'd like to see a video and hear it roar too. Haha.

Umm, he also paid substantially more to put it under the hood. It's all about trade offs....

Impressive build.

video

i only have a dyne video that doesn't do the turbo justice, i will have to get the one my friend took, my girlfriend calls it the "spaceship" because of how loud the turbo is, the guys around town have dubbed it "whistling dixie" because it whistles so loud, it almost sounds like a turbo diesel. i will post one as soon as i can get my hands on one, like i said it is in WA still or i would just take one, i did a go pro too but all you can hear is the wind overpowering the sound. what kind of pics would you like to see more of, i have quite a bit.

I really like what you did, I was contemplating doing the same thing a couple years ago. I also turbocharched my 4Runner, but just did a homemade rear mount. It's cool to see a built 5vz that can handle real boost instead of the everyday ~7-10 psi like mine. I see you moved to Arizona also, if you ever come up further north near Sedona or Cottonwood let me know, I would like to see it. Great work man.

Cheers.

Why? I've done both many times. Rear mounts work just fine, no underhood heat soak with rear mount and a bit quicker spool with manifold mount.

I'm turbocharged at $800, OP has the awesome.

putting them in, i purchased generic pods and dremeled them down then used ABS cement and dev-con to attaché them and then used layers and sanded them down then did a layer of bondo to get the trim lines to follow to the back of the pods, sanded and sent them to line-ex.
