994runner 4wd automatically engages when I start the truck

Hi guys as the title says my 4wd automatically is engaged when I start the car. I have to push the 4wd button on then push it again to turn it off. What is going on? Its a pain in the ass.

That's a new one. Off the top of my head, other than a sick 4wd ECU, I can't think of a cause for that. I'd start by doing the checks in the service hints section of the attached EWD (it's 2000, but '99 should be the same.)

That will check button function and key on signal function. That's a good start.

Thanks for the information. I forgot to mention that the truck is a limited with rear diff lock and a Spartan locker in the front.
