I discovered a leak of r134a refrigerant from the bottom of the A/C compressor. There is a nut on the bottom of the compressor that looks like some kind of relief valve and this is what is leaking. Does anyone know anything about this leak, why it happens or how to fix it? Is it something I can fix myself like a gasket or something I shouldn't mess with? I know the dealer will charge me an arm and a leg. Is it even something that can be fixed or will it result in the need for a new compressor? If it is a relief valve I guess it may be functioning properly and the problem could be elsewhere. Perhaps just having the system purged and refilled at the proper vacuum pressure will solve the problem. Any ideas? Thanks!

there should be no leaks anywhere in the Refrigerant circuit. Fixing the leak will be easy. I will take a look at mine to see what part your explaining to see if i can help you out.
Once fixed a vacum pump is the only required tool most people don't own. The system has to be vacumed down to eliminate moisture and contaminants in the system. Then you can add oil/134a to the system. The amount can be looked up by any automotive parts dealer(autozone/napa/etc)

so how did it go?..i think my ac problem could be a compressor leak, and not an evaporator leak as i thought initially
