Replacing Low A/C Line Only

I've got a leak in my Schrader valve of my A/C Line, I put UV Dye in the system and let it flow for a few days. Only spot I could see UV Dye was in the valve itself and around the outside stem a bit. I understand that could just be from the injection of R134a, but I could audibly hear it leaking out of the valve when I injected. After fill, A/C blew warm 2 days later.

My question is I've replaced the compressor in the last 5 years and have done this line before, I think i bought a cheap rock auto one last time. Can I just replace this line, I'm fairly confident the system is empty as I don't hear the leak and my ac is certainly not cold. I know there are all sorts of "adding oil to system" and various people who say to get it evacuated, but if its empty from the leak, is there a point?

If it's empty then that's that. You may want to replace the condenser/drier as the drier technically is done once it picks up moisture from outside the system.

Then if you want ideal performance I'd have a shop evacuate it to check for leaks and refill with the correct mix of refrigerant and oil. Excess oil from trying to diy the refill is likely to cause compressor issues down the road.

Couple things:

- Schrader valves can be replaced with a valve core tool
- In AC system design, the sealing mechanism is the cap with the o-ring, the schrader valve is a "service valve". Generally as long as it's a slow leak you don't necessarily need to replace anything. Maybe the o-ring on the cap.

If you are sure lines are empty and you have replaced Schrader valve core, hook up gauges and pull vacuum. It is holds for an hour, you are good to fill.
