I own a 2003 4 Runner Sport Edition
~76,000 miles
I have always done oil changes, and scheduled maintenance.
This past year the car has cost me over 2500 dollars in repair
1. new rotors
2. leak in coolant system,
3. replaced water pump
4. replaced timing chain
5. 2 lb or ac coolant recharge.
So the A/C has not been as cold as it usually is. I have a 2008 sonata 4 cylinder and that has been ice cold almost stings sometimes.
i called the dealer for an appt, because july 4th is coming, and i dont want to stuck in a jam, or with my pregnant wife and 2 year old in a hot car or work broken down.
I figure nip this in the bud right?
On the day i dropped off my car June 30th 2008, it was 72 degrees, and of course the ac is working ok. before any work was done, i guess they told me the air was cold enough, maybe it was in my head.
I told him no, on days over 90 degrees, the ac is not cold enough, and before I never used the LO setting usually 68 to 72 degrees.
He told me, well , they will do a recharge and add dye.
149 bucks for an ac recharge 2 LBs of coolant.
I asked him are you sure its fine? the holiday is coming up , i dont want to stuck in a bind. Its good, if there is a problem theres dye so they can find the leak
Today july 3rd, 4 pm, i am driving, its at least 95 degrees. AC is barely cold, and I am blasting it at LO setting.
Then i turn off ac, try giving it a break.
Then ac light starts to flash the next time I turn it on and i see steam coming from my hood.
Check engine light on permanently
VSC and something else permanently on
and check oil flashing randomly.
I call the dealer at 4:55 pm or so and luckily , i get the guy who wrote my car up and signed me out.
He says, bring it back on monday
Good for him right?
I just wasted good part of a mornng in their waiting room, my car is out of warranty, so i have to come out of pocket for a rental, and most likely there is a serious problem with the ac
let alone, what do I do from july 4th to the 7th?
I am pissed and annoyed.
I really like the car, its served me well, but its starting to be like a money pit, but also a waste of time.
I have emailed the dealer and i hope to speak to someone higher up about the other issue
I purposely went to Champion toyota in philly which is farther away than Cherry Hill Toyota, because they had done better work for me in the past.
if I would have known what I know now, i would have gone for a honda oddysey lease, and just succumb to the minivan life since i have a 2nd child coming in august.
Argh!
ownership for what? Equity?
anyone else having problems with their 2003 ac or other things really costing them big money?
advice for making sure I can make the dealer do the right thing?
