A hand washing/polishing/waxing job that is. Spent some time with the 4R and LC today to give them some deserved TLC.

I washed the 4R with Dawn, polished with Turtel Wax Ice polish and waxed with Meguiars Gold Class all by hand. The 700-1200 miles a week have taken a toll on the hood with numerous rock chips. (Im doing 1500 this week alone) I have a handful of pinstripes down the passenger side from off road. Last week I was backed into by a contractor at a lumber yard. He drove off, no one saw, he didnt leave a note.....I had to push my rear bumper back into shape. The front of my car was rubbed against when I parked by the library on the last day of finals.

I swear my car is a target for everything.

I washed the LC about a week ago....still looks perfect. I hate dark colored cars like my Galactic Grey.

Oh yea, the land cruiser is my dream car. I love the 4R but LOVE the Land Cruiser even more. Everything about it is "different" in a good way. Should be mine in 2 years or so.

Anyway onto to the pics. Please feel free to comment about anything and everything as you know I have no problem doing so.

Very nice man. Love Land Cruiser's too. Used to have an '88 FJ62. I would love to get another, or better yet an FJ80.
 
Based on your description I was expecting to see a scratched and beaten up 4Runner - but it looks really good! I know what you mean about the dark colors - I have the nautical blue and it seems to show everything. But I've also learned that as owners of these vehicles, we see more than what anybody else does!

That is a great looking pair of Toyotas. Nice work! I may look at the small things, but did you change the blades on your LC?
 
Wow, Eskimochaos, that's incredible. You had dirty 4Runner and after wash it turned into Land Cruiser. I'll try mine to see if I get Supra:bouncy:
 
Looks great! Salsa is a pain to keep clean too...shows a lot of dirt, I cant even imagine a darker color then Salsa. I will post pics of mine when the lift is in. Last week I clayed it and put on a coat of Tech Wax. That stuff sucks to remove once applied, but the results are great!

Good eyes. Yes, they are Bosch Icons. I had them on the 4R for about 7 or so months but they started to leave "lines" when wiping. Not streaking but there were really tiny abrasions in the blade that were magnified when in use.

Im currently using PIAA super silicone blades on the 4R. I have Bosch Excel + in the garage as well. IDK if you recall but I was having issues with my old windshield hazing so I have all 3 just sitting around as I tried everything. The windshield should never have been coated with that hydrophobic coating IMO.

Off topic, but look at the two head on shots. Look at the difference underneath the vehicle. The Land Cruiser has about 2-3 more inches of ground clearance. The 4R has to sit so low in the front I assume to pass US frontal passenger impacts and car impacts. I believe its in place so a car like the 4R will not "drive" over a smaller car on impact. If the LC hits anything, its toast.

I wish the LC was mine, its my moms DD for her 60mile round trip commute on 78 which for those that dont know has a lot of trucks. Its her second one and nothing can compete with it really as far as safety and security is concerned.

PS, you didnt notice my stealth radar detector install or ghetto EZ-pass location did you? lol

Yea its actually impossible and washing/waxing your own cars you see every square inch of it so you find everything. I also agree that nobody really notices them.

If you look at the head on pics, you can see all the bugs that I couldnt get off the lower part of the bumper. They are a PITA.
 
IDK why I never posted this one. If you look at the front corner bumper you can see "rub" marks where some Jackass hit me while I was taking a final at school. You can also see deep scratches courtesy of my brother's bike pedals. Its ironic because they happened at home after I washed it and swapped driveway parking for a garage spot to keep in "nice".

Im at the point where new scratches/dings dont bother me too much.

Touch Up

Hey Eskimo,

Have you tried some of the Galactic Grey original touch up paint on those minor rubs on the front bumper???

Now that you mention it, I do! I usually leave my EZ-Pass adjacent to the rearview and the radar is in plain view- on the lower part of the windshield. I have driven on I-78 and it is dangerous with all of the trucks. Your mom is right to use a LC as her DD.
 
Nope dishwashing soap doesn't isnt bad for your paint.
All the times you wax your vehicle, the wax builds up and using the dish soap is a great safe way to get rid of the wax and start fresh

Exactly. It works really well on the tires where I find the armor-all tire shine likes to build up so much that you can peel it off in chunks with your fingernail.

Nope, only when I want to re-apply wax/polish which now is about once every two months.

I normally use ArmorAll car wash and it does a FANTASTIC job!!! Never have I seen shine from just wash alone like I do from the ArmorAll. It leaves the paint really smooth as well.
