a lift on a 2WD 4r

I am huge on cosmetics, but in my family you have to be very self consceous of your vehicle since we are a hardcore toyota family... 2 MKIV supras, 05 Taco, Land Cruiser (the lexus version)... If i do get a lift on a 2WD, i will never be invited to any more family events. Is it worth it?

not too bad, just always looking to do something different. those things dont sound like something i want... espically the gas mileage thing.

do what I am doing and go opposite, turn it into a street machine! get all the cheap mods and some performance tires.

is it just me or does the 4runner always feel extremely stable? not once have I ever felt like I was beginning to tip over at all. I've taken turns at 40 going WOT and it feels solid. (my friends and I think it's hella funny to do some tokyo drifting now and then! :biggrin2: )

sweet, same here, me and some guys go out to this parking lot that has a sprinkler system that goes off at night and we angle the sprinklers to wet down a small area of the lot to drift around on!!

my friend's tundra has a TRD sticker - Tokyo Ricer Drifting. it's the shiznit, bro!

I don't think my 98 has traction control (it doesnt have the turn-off button) so it spins out easy. plus it's badass. my friends call my truck the ninermobile because during football season it has niner stickers on the back windows, a silver 9er logo, and a niner window flag. that's how my car stands out. too bad I'm getting rid of it in september when I move to college.

haha i remember watching Good Morning America and they were testing SUV's.... 3rd Gen 4Runners are one of the most safiest SUV's out there. Some guy who tested it was driving crazy on trying to tip over but it still stayed stable to the ground.... pretty sweet!

not suprising that toyota got rid of that bad rap by completely overhualing the saftey and doing a 180 for the 3rd gens...thankfully!

Maybe it's just me, but it sounds like you don't want to lift your 4Runner, but in your sig it reads:

later mods:
OEM lift, tundra front coils and LC rear coils. 3.5 inch lift/ tjm 15 or armorology front bumper./ ARB Locker/ 285 goodyears/ bored out throttle body/ carbon fiber dash kit

That's a fairly stout lift for a 3rd gen. I was just wondering why knock it since you plan on getting one. That's all.

On a seperate note, how does adding taller coils, (i.e. a lift kit) decrease gas milage? You're not add that much more of a heavier load? Just wondering, b/c I plan on getting a 2" lift and don't want my mpgs to drop that much.

i think what neliconcept was pointing out is that he wants to do all that and spend all that money on a 2WD which is kind of a waste.

However much you lift your 4runner your up in the air that much more and you have that much more resistance to move forward, not to mention the weight of the tires and wheels.

the lower MPG is not absolutly horrible but it will be noticable and depending on what tire size and tread pattern you go with, it will be more for your engine to push.

I really meant just a lift alone, but that makes sense too. I plan on running a 2" lift w/ stock tires and rims and was curious as to how much the lift alone would decrease mpgs. Raising it higher, thus pushing more through the air I could see would lower mpgs.

yes, you can drift for fun in the parking lot but never in a dry weather or on the streets. i once drifted in my 4runner in a rainy day. i took the curve too quick which i forgot to brake and gas at the same time. which i cracked my rim. and so, i just recently replaced that crack with a new rim. i'm still keeping my 4th gen wheels on my 3rd t4r. =)

I have drifted once on dry pavement...

I was approaching a 3 way stop and i turned a bit to the left and took the corner hard to the right and got my rear to whip right around for a good 5 seconds as a let the throttle open up... my friend who was following me called it "badass".

i was on a street where a neighborhood is still building but no one lives there yet. it was about a 90 degree angle turn and yes, it was still raining -_-. i was going to drift *correction* right, so i floored it while turning which i was about, 15-20 mph and i believed that i didn't get no attraction from my rwd and so, my left rim hit the curve and cracked it. the front left rim only had scratches. i was going to repair the rim but it cost about $150! but i bought a brand-new rim that cost about $150 which i rather have a BRAND NEW rim rather than a repaired rim.
