While this mod is not new on Yotas I have yet to see it done on a 5th gen. I have never liked the factory air intake pick up point on these Runners since it sits almost on top of the fender liner and a bit forward. After pulling out the Air box today while working on a few other things I took a quick look and decided this could be a simple fix. I had a section of 4” automotive air duct and found that after pulling the foam gasket material it fit perfectly over the air box intake tube and could be clamped down with a hose clamp. Below are some pics of the perp.

Next I pulled the hose through the intake hole and attached it back to the air box. After wrestling with the fender liner I got it loose and found a few points where I could zip tie the air duct tightly to the inner fender so that there was no movement of the air duct. All in all I gained about 4-6” of clearance over the stock set up the pics don't show the end of the intake but it is 3/4 of the way down and about 1-2" from the top of the fender.
4" air duct still fits through the factory cut out.
This pic doesn't do justice since it doesn't show the end of the hose and the camera pic is up at an angle. The hose is about an 1-2" from the top of the fender now.
This is a quick and easy mod for those who don’t want a snorkel but would like a bit of extra insurance. While having the liner off I also noticed that there is a hole behind the fire wall into the cowl for the cabin filter & wiper motors etc. It looked big enough to run the hose through so it could be run even higher yet I have heard this can wreak havoc with the AC since the motor and an AC will be sharing pick up points. Yet this can also be remedied by having the AC on Recirculation as well. Any way thought I would share this cheap and easy mod.
