Hi folks, first post on here. I have a 99 limited with the 3.4 v6. It has been the family vehicle for years. This summer I plan to purchase another vehicle for family use, So the 4runner is mine and mine alone. im an avid hunter,so ive decided to turn my 4runner into the most awesome hunting buggy in these parts. I would imagine i will have many question in the future, but lets get a couple of the important ones out of the way. let me start with a engine question. the 3.4 runs great and has never gave me any problems, but is it possible to install a 4.7 in my model without to much hassle. next is lift kit, would like to put some bigger tires and custom rims. i would just like to get some input on what i would need to get this off and running. i have a year before next deer season. would like to make this happen. one more thing engine change is due to excessive miles, and i like the idea of a horsepower upgrade.
thanks

I would imagine that it would make the drive to and from remote camping/hunting locations more enjoyable.

Welcome to the boards! Be sure to check the search function for the lift question. There are a ton of really helpful threads out there on that topic already. As for the engine upgrade, I have no idea.

If i remember right Singtoe did the engine swap in his 3rd gen. I can't imagine it was easy however.

Depends on who you are if it's a "hassle" or not. For me, it's not that difficult, for some it's impossible. I make billet aluminum UZ flywheels for manual tranny conversions, my friend makes tranny adapters, I weld, fab, my friend is a wiring/tuning/engine management guru....so it's a piece of cake.

What are your skills, and what friends do you have?

It wasn't bad at all. You need one of these to make it quicker though.

what you are gonna need is a lot of patients and some $$$, pretty much everything is gonna be custom one-off, sure there are a couple of guys who have done this, but its not by any means a popular swap so there is no one to go to for a "off the shelf" kit to do this. and even if there was it would be $$$ too. best of luck and yeah start searching around, read up on different ways to make power, you can supercharge the motor, turbo charge the motor or do a full motor swap. but you already have a pretty good hunting rig, i mean you dont wanta lift it too high or your never gonna be able to load anything into it. its plenty capable rig out of the box, maybe add a locker or two to it and a winch and call it good if you ask me

Hunting rig

Id go with 22" wheels, or maybe the cool spoke wheels. hehehe. How about leave the engine, get a s/c, mild lift, good tires and a locker. You'll have a solid rig... If you go crazy custom you'll increase your chance of breakage, issues, problems. wich will ruin your hunt. IMHO
