A little more power

I am trying to get a little more power out of my runner so I'm wondering if anyone has done any upgrades and gotten an increase in hp. I know the obvious answer is get a supercharger but unfortunately that isn't an option right now as I'm still in school. I was thinking TRD headers or even tundra/sequoia headers? Anyone have any experience or would it just be a waste of time and money

Thanks

Most people on here will tell you that headers are a waste of money compared to the HP gain. The common mod's for HP would be the deckplate and ISR mod if I remember correctly.

In order of $$$ spent

#1 Deckplate mod/ drop in k&n

#2 Headers/ full exhaust

#3 Supercharger

Not really much else besides those that I can think of other than full on engine work.

Really the only mod worth doing to get extra HP is the s/c. Headers are a lot of work and money for a slight throttle response and exhaust will do very little to nothing as well. We are kind of SOL on the cheap HP.

Yeah, got the drop in K&N. As for headers would tundra/sequoia add HP or just the TRD ones?

Sorry I don't know how to multi quote but yeah it does sound like we are SOL doesn't it. The only reason I ask is because I was offroading by the mountains not too long ago and felt a significant loss of power

Do not get the k&n ! Get a dry filter trust me and save some money on faulty sensors down the road

The only sensor that it affects over time is the MAF sensor because the oil clings to the wires thus so does the dirt, and you get a little CRC MAF Sensor cleaner and 15 mins of your time and it's clean. I always wondered about the dry filters though. Anyone have one and how much did it cost?

its just not good man trust me on this, maf gets dirty TB gets dirty TPS gets dirty, whole lot of headache for maybe i mean may be 1hp is it really worth it to me NO, and i run an K&N my self too but i run it without oil

+1! MAF sensors aren't cheap, and the K&N filter oil WILL ruin them. Just a matter of time... ask me how i know...

So sick of hearing this crap.

I put in a K&N drop in when I bought the truck, which I ran for a year. I've had my K&N intake in for two years and I have had no problems. I oil it with their kit, no issues.

It's the guys who can't quit over oiling their **** that complain. Just be careful and you'll be fine like everyone else who doesn't complain about them. Tons of guys run them here and I hardly ever hear anything wrong. Clean your MAF every once in a while.

I clean my MAF, throttle body, and reset the EFI fuse every other oil change, same with the filter. I have K&N.

Maybe it has something to do with why I get nearly 20mpg.. I bet its the deckplate/ISR though haha.

actually when maf get dirtier you get better mpg, computer reads less air thus give less fuel

do what you want and say what you like, im just trying to give the guy some advice and my own opinion, there is no sense paying 45 something dollars for a filter that barely give you any HP and requires cleaning all the time.

To op: try to find a true flow filter on the internet they are very good filters, and do the deckplate mod you can deff feel a little power gain in the higher rpm range, and maybe do an exhuast mostly for sound but im sure it give you like 1 hp or more :D

FWIW, I've been running a K&N drop-in filter in the modified stock airbox of my '97, for almost 14 years now.

No problems with the MAF, TPS, IAC, or anything else. I've cleaned it a handful of times over the years, and have never had any problem re-oiling it without over-oiling.

+1000
I was gonna say the exact same thing. I've been running k&n filters for years and never had a problem. Don't over oil and only put oil on the side that comes into contact with 'dirty' air. Most people who complain about this either over oil or oil the wrong side.
