I decided yesterday on the way to church (lol) to go check out a little logging area behind my house. I didn't plan on doing any wheeling, but I saw a little puddle so I went for it. Turns out the little puddle was genuine NC swamp mud and my entire rear end sunk like a rock.
So, to begin:
So I call up my dad who lives 10 minutes away because I knew I wasn't getting out by myself. Before he came I ran to the house, changed clothes, and got a shovel. I dug out my tires and tried to make some room for it to budge. Before I go any further I'd like to say: I love Toyota for putting not only a stock tow hook on the front, but also recovery points on the frame in the back as well. I don't have a trailer hitch, and had I not had the recovery point on the back end on the frame..I'd probably still be stuck. We tried to pull it out from the front, but there was a rather large hill there AND my dad almost got stuck in the soft mud in front of me.
This is after I was rescued:
So dad said, "Since I'm here now, you should try it again!" So I happily obliged, and made it with a little momentum..although I almost got stuck again. Thankfully my tires have decent tread and I've been in enough mud before to know how to get out. I was turning around to tell my dad "DON'T TRY IT!" since he has Michelin LTX road tires, but alas..it was too late.
So I pulled him out and we waited around a few minutes for my little brother (15 year old) and his friend (16 year old) to come along on his gigantic Chevy 1500HD. I knew it wasn't going to end well as a result of a truck that's as heavy as lead and very little driver skill. I was right.
We ended up using a floor jack to jack his rear end up out of the mud (I need a Hi-Lifter) and a shovel to dig his tires out a bit. Dad tried pulling him by himself, but that wasn't happening. We ended up hooking my 4Runner to his hitch with a chain and my dad's 4Runner to my front tow hook with a strap and I snatched him out on the first try.
The aftermath:
