Interesting, sounds like I owe you a :beer:. Do you have a Playlist tab on screen, along with Albums, Artists, etc., or is there another way you select the playlist. And can you use multiple playlists?

Yes, I have these decade playlists which I generated manually as tabs under the "playlists" tab. I also have the system auto-generated lists by artist, albums, genre, etc.

Given the manual for your 4Runner says M3Us aren't compatible, I'd think it wouldn't apply to your 4Runner either.

Are these "system auto-generated lists" what the head unit extracts from the MP3 meta data tags?

I'm trying to duplicate what you're doing. This may work. Just for clarity, this is done on a simple flash drive?

What size?

And where does Entune get the playlist name? The folder name?

1. As I noted, I edited the m3u file as another member noted to MAKE it compatible. The standard m3u file generated by my media player, DID NOT WORK.

2. The system generated lists come from the tags.

3. USB flash drive, the super small profile type which fits fine with the door flap closed. I think 8 or 16GB.

4. The playlist name comes from the filename, like "1960s.m3u".

Once again, this has not worked. I tried to duplicate what you've done, but no joy. It seems Toyota broke Entune, regarding the use of playlists, sometime between 2013 and 2017. At least now the manual is correct, in that the statement in the 2017 4Runner Navigation System Owner's Manual "m3u playlists are not compatible with the audio player.", is correct.

I was just checking my maps out and noticed that it says its from 2016. They are loaded through an SD Card that the dealership gave me when I got the vehicle.

Anyone know if there is an update for maps and is there a way to update maps via the SD Card?

Also, is this something that Toyota charges you for.

Curious to know as well, mine was built in June but it came with a 2016 file. It has to be all on the card cause I recall getting the vehicle home, tried the NAV next day but it was missing the card. Went back to the dealer and they forgot to insert it. They just went out back and grabbed the card, I doubt they are VIN specific? Dude said they take them all out of the vehicles of course otherwise they would disappear.

Anyway - it's probably only a 2gig card max, easily copied on to another. They likely only update it every fall if I recall correctly, thats what my Garmin does.

Hard to imagine a worse app or in car system. For starters the airbag knows when there is a passenger in front seat. Why not the nav? Stop to have passenger put in address? Really? My 6 year old Bmw is 1000% more intuitive and easy to use.

1. I don't use satellite radio, so the presets are empty. If I manage to get to the sat source, I can't get out to get to AM/FM by simply scrolling up/down the presets! I need to select source then AM/FM to get out. Stupid!

2. I'd like to switch between sources - including AM/FM. If I don't use USB, bluetooth or sat why should I need to cycle through them? if I'm on the last FM preset and want AM why should I cycle up six presets to get to AM? Stupid! Yes, i can select source on the screen but I don't want to look at the screen for this - should be button controlled and fast. Geez, why not have buttons for AM/FM for direct access? Plenty of other cars still do.

3. My 2012 Honda Civic has the best controls: a center button with a round rocking circle around it. Rocking circle up/down controls volume, left/right controls channel and button in the middle controls source, cycling through AM/FM1/FM2. Perfectly intuitive and fast. And yes, they have dedicated buttons on teh radio for AM/FM. But, stupidly, they have FM on the left and AM on the right. WTF?!

I don't think it's that simple. Nav also takes input from GPS so if you're moving the hack doesn't work. Right? At least, that's the deal on my 2013.

EnTune In Canada

For you EnTune experts, is the Toyota Entune® App Suite still available? I don't see it in the play store, only the new 3.0 version for newer 2018 Toyotas. Basically what I'm (trying) to do is update my Canadian spec 2017 NAV unit to include the apps you US guys already have (and love to complain about . Before this turns into a s#% show, let me also add....

- Yes I know the stock apps sucks and EnTune in general is a huge disappointment.
- Yes I realize this has been tried before to no avail.
- Yes I know upgrading to a proper aftermarket unit will solve this for me, and then some...
- Yes I know I'm special for still wanting to try this ....:loco:

In my defense though, I will add:
- An aftermarket system will run deep into the thousands of dollars and dozen of hours to properly install. Neither of which I have a lot of at the moment.
- I know you need HD Radio for some of the apps to work (like weather or traffic). Fortunately we have HD Radio here in Toronto. So maybe it'll work?
- While EnTunes may suck, it's still better than the sh!t us Canadians get from the dealer. :canada:
- If this works, great. If not it's not the end of the world. I'll just keep using my crappy system as is. Just looking to conduct a few experiments and need the Android app to get started.
