I think automatically retracting side mirrors are new and will be standard on the 2006 HiLux Surf.

I haven't heard if the 2006 4Runner will get them as well.

I really don't see the point but to each his own.

I bet they wouldn't be fast and it is a lot easier to fold them in by hand then to sit and hold a button. No?

That is a very useful feature to have when pulling into a garage or tight parking spaces. It is much easier to push a button rather than get out and fold the mirrors by hand. I don't think this feature will be offered on the 4Runner's in the US because the 2006 GX470 doesn't even have it. The only Toyota vehicle that I know of to have this is the Sequoia Limited.

If they work like the ones a friend has on her Lexus in Singapore, they automatically fold in when you turn off the ignition. They are in the folded position before you can open the door and get out of the car.

haha are yall serious?? this is how lazy we the american ppl are, instead of reaching 2 inches out the window or when we get out to fold it in we'd rather reach up to the dash to push and hold a button. I always wondered who had a changer for their cd players in their cars reminds me of a technology teacher i had in highschool that said he would put something in the microwave for 30 sec and he was soo lazy he would hit 33 instead of moving his finger all the way down to the "zero". looks neat though if you cant get rid of your money fast enough. And when your doin 70 or so down the highway you can push it compulsivly like a 5 yr old and pretend their wings !!

Now that would be cool!! Many of the car makers don't allow the mirrors to be folded if you are going over a certain speed (5mph-10mph).

EDIT: I know for a fact that in a BMW, it locks the button if you go over 5mph. The mirrors only fold when you push the button, not when you insert or remove the key.

I think it will hold itself when you take the key out from the ignition. Also it will reopen when you insert the key.

I think these would be GREAT for someone going into a car wash (brushless of course) who doesn't want to run all the way around his or her vehicle folding mirrors.

I know the drivers side mirror is easy to fold but even my arms can't reach the passenger side one from inside!

Actually, I have them on my Surf. They come standard with the push button fold open/close.

The option you're looking at is they fold in automatically when you lock the door with the key fob and fold open when you unlock the door.

BTW- In Japan's narrow streets and parking they are really almost required.

Does that comes standard on all Hilux Surf models or just on the Limited (or whatever the top of the line trim is)?

Would be really handy on the trail. See some tight spots you can just pop them in at the push of a button.

Overseas the streets are narrower....

thus, this type of a feature is a necessity vs a nice to have. Otherwise, you're mirrors will get knocked off / broken by passing vehicles because the streets are soooo narrow.

Hey now, i do that all the time. Saves me .25 of a second maybe. In a lifetime that might be a few minutes. Valuable time saved.
