A Silver 4Runner in NJ

Fender bender and aftermarket bumper
So our Au Pair was driving my 4runner last night and rear ended a Honda Odyssey. No one was hurt thank goodness, but there was some damage.
I have a SSO front bumper and it held up pretty well. It appears to have a bend in the middle of the plate right below the trail light. The cowling of the bumper on the driver side is smashed in, as is the grate and the headlight case is broken on the bottom. The driver side fender is pushed in and scrapes the tire on extreme right turns. The hood has a twist, not sure if that is the front end or the hood itself but it is not sitting flat. I see no leaking fluids from the radiator or the transmission cooler.
All that said my question is there anything I need to do regarding the insurance company and the replacement of the aftermarket parts if required.

Lived in NJ most of my life. Glad to see T4R members out that way!
Bummer about the front end getting smashed in like that. At least everyone was ok! If it were me I would go with a full on replacement bumper next. I think this illustrates how little if any protection these hybrid bumpers offer. They are really just good for mounting a winch.

Squirrels in my hood
This is a continuation of my post in the "What have you done today thread".
A squirrel made a nest in the engine compartment of my 4runner, they chopped up a few wires my SPOD harness and a couple of other items I had installed but nothing too bad except that they cut the wires on plug for the air injection driver control. I was given great advice to look for the number on the back of the plug and I don't see one at all. So I'm looking for a source for a replacement 6 pin plug from the wiring harness into this module which is located next to the fuse box on the drivers side wheel well.

Do you have the specs for this box build? I'm gonna build one this weekend coming up and have some ideas on paper but this is the exact size I was looking at.
Sorry that was from a few years ago and I didn't keep them.

Ok so I have seen a few of these squirrel issues and its making me uncomfortable.
Check with you local Gestapo before proceeding. There are ways and reasons that are "approved" by the regime that would allow you adjust the squirrel pressure at your location.

Better to ask for forgiveness than permission sometimes. Personally, i'd rig up a system that electrifies the little bastards nuts off like those electric mouse traps. After they trip, the system turns off until you remove the deceased intruder and then reset to prevent fires. Just get rid of them quietly and be done with it.

I have read that on the internet there are these devices called "Tube Traps". The dogs, kids cats etc. wont have a safety issue with them. But thats just on the internet. Check with your local Gestapo if this device has the correct papers.

What size wire?
I’m impatiently awaiting the arrival of my roof rack from LFD, and I thought I would get started on the lighting project for the rack.
I have 2 small pod lights, (18 watt) that I want to attach to the back of the roof rack. I am planning on running the wires from the engine through the cabin on the driver’s side and to the roof through the back.
What I have a question on, is what size wire should I run? I believe I could get away with 16 gauge but would it make sense to run 14 or even 12?

RCI accessory tray install
So today I installed the little accessory tray from RCI.
I'm happy with it for $25 bucks. It comes bare steel so I primed it up and installed it. Slightly different than in their picture where it is shown as a single piece. This is bolts up nicely.

Whats next?
I've been working from home for the last few months and been working on quite a few more mods. I've run into a few glitches and not been able to get them all completed.
First up I installed my new 27F Northstar Battery from the group buy.
I bought a battery tray from CBI and kept the battery in the original location. The tray fits nicely as does the battery, but the battery holder that comes with the tray doesn't have a hole in the correct location for the J hooks. It is made for a second battery install. So I used the OEM battery holder until I can get the drill out and drill an extra hold. The battery is working great and that battery tray is a solid piece.

LFD roof rack
I ordered a full length steel roof rack from LFD and was impressed at how fast it arrived. I removed the OEM rack, cleaned it up and installed it in a couple of hours by myself. I feel it went together really nice and looks great. I really like the curved fairing. one small glitch the front feet were left out of the package, but LFD responded really quickly so once those arrive I'll finish that project.

USB port
I've been wanting to have some additional USB ports in the car that are always on, for charging phones and running the dash camera. I wasn't sure how I wanted to run this but in the end I found a old wire harness with an inline fuse that worked perfect. I opened up the dash on the left side and took out the upper section. fished the wire through to the engine and was all set to install the USB port that I had bought awhile back for my camper. And well next glitch this port has 2 ridges and doesn't fit into the blank. So I've ordered a new USB port and will finish it up once Amazon arrives.

C4 Ladder
I was part of a group buy about a year ago and bought a C4 ladder which has been sitting in my garage since it was shipped. Now that I had a roof rack it seemed like a good idea to install the ladder. This is looks great and went together in less than an hour. All I needed to do was clean off the roof and install it on the hatch. Well the next glitch appeared. I was missing the adhesive sheet that installed on the top plate. So email off to C4 and I'll finish this one in short order.

OBD power for dash camera
While I was researching how to power my dash camera I found something that I thought was pretty interesting. It is a power cable that powers your dash camera by plugging into your OBD port under the dash. It also has a motion detector in the cable so if the car moves the camera flips on. I use my OBD port occasionally to run diagnostics but I don't normally have it going all the time. I plugged it in and powered up the camera and it seemed to work pretty well. I'm waiting on some 3m tape to keep the camera from falling down, and then I'll run it in the headliner.
One thing to note, if you get one of these, cut the tab that locks it in place. I had a bear of a time getting it out of the port due to the location and angle.
