A substitute for the Dash pocket

I recently installed a Alpine deck in my 2000 Runner. Instead of using that cheezy plastic dash pocket that installs below the deck, I would like to make an aluminium face plate where I can cover up the hole and place my audio connections for my ipod.

QUESTION:

DOES ANYBODY HAVE THE DIMENSIONS FOR THE AFTERMARKET DASH KIT THAT WOULD UTILIZE THE STOCK BOLT ON LOCATIONS? I NEED FRONT AND BACK / LEFT AND RIGHT SO I CAN MAKE MY FACE PLATE SIT RIGHT AGAINST THE RUNNER'S DASH COVER.

What dim are you looking for exactly??

Might be able to take a look at a metra toyota pocket later and get the dim

response to Radio bracket

I drew up a simple sketch of somethin close to what Ill make. This three dim are what Im looking for.

1. How far it is from the center of the front screw hole to the back of the toyota main dash cover. (that way the plate sits right against the dash panel - flush look)

2. The distance from the stock mounting bracket (width wise) so I can line the screw holes up and the bracket arms will fit snug against the stock mounting brackets. That should give me an idea of how wide I need to make the plate.

3. Ctr. of screw hole to screw hole and if there is an elevation difference.

If anybody has this, Ill be stoked.

I don't quite understand what you are wanting exactly with this piece... like how you are wanting to do your ipod connections and what not.

I understand what you're trying to do. I dont have the dimensions but I do know the box under my alpine unit looks like crap.

Let me know if you get anything built and maybe I'll have you build me one.

Yeah, I basically dont want that pocket there. I just want a flat plate that ill have 2 rca connections on it. That way, it looks good, and I can plug in any accessory real easy.

I think I might just spend the time getting the demensions.

Ill get back to you on yours "99limitedKS"

gotcha... I could build that easily no problem. At my work we have an aluminum lamanent that could be used. Maybe I'll build it just to say I did.

here is my suggestion... basically make the 2 side pieces out of wood, that way you don't have to worry about getting the positions for the bracket right, and then make the front piece out of MDF as well and use an aluminum lamanent or whatever look you are trying to get on the front. Here is a drawing...it blows because I'm at home and don't have any fancy software like I do at my apartment.

I have this blank out panel made by Metra which is for mounting an equalizer that would probably work well. It's for a Yota but not sure the year so might have to drill more mounting holes. Its steel with a black crackle finish and a plastic pop out panel where the eqaualizer goes. If interested PM me.
