Guy
I need some help on to identify the shift Solenoid SL on a 1998 4runner v.6 4x4
When I took off the VB and did my ATF I saw that there are two shift Solenoid
Now my CEL comes on throwing a (P0773 Shift Solenoid "E" Electrical)
and a P0770 (Shift Solenoid "E") P0773 stating that is is the shift Solenoid SL (TDC #1)
My question is which one is the Shift Solenoid SL, can anyone give me an idea
here are some photos not my came off a 2000 4runner limited.

2002 4runner Shift Solenoid "E"

This was posted a long time ago but I am also looking to locate my shift solenoid "E" or solenoid SL. Can someone please help me locate it in the photos above? Will my 2002 look similar to this 1998 pictured?

Thanks....

Hope this helps a little!
Photo came from a 1998

looking at the first diagram posted by the OP, is the solenoid labelled #3 the shift solenoid SL and what cause the p0773?

jgue467, I was reading your pdf and it tells you to complete the steps and then to move down to next step or if OK Check and replace the ECM (See page IN-28 ). Do you have page IN-28? thanks for the help

So I know this is an old thread, but it's a great one as I may have to get dirty here soon and this is helpful.

The question I have for the original post guy is, what were your symptoms you were having that made you want to get it checked out, and were you the one who diagnosed this issue or did a repair shop do so?

The reason I'm asking is because my 2002 3rd gen gives me the symptom of, when it's cold, I can put it in drive, and the transmission doesn't pull unless I hit the gas a little. Then gives a little thud when i touch the accelerator. Every other gear seems to shift pretty normal. So I'm not getting any codes thrown to my check engine light and I don't want to start throwing parts that could be fairly expensive. Any advice on symptoms and issues that were happening prior to replacing the solenoids would be helpful to me. I'm not one to bring it in and pay a hundred twenty bucks for someone to tell me what's wrong with it. Please and thanks to anyone who can direct me
