Is Castrol finally making a true synthetic oil?

CastrolEdgeUSA.com

Wonder how much its going to cost compare to Mobile 1, which is already expensive.

sorry if this is a repost...

When i had my BMW M3 (2003), it ran with full synthetic from Castrol. It was specially made for BMW and Porsche. It was full synthetic...made in Germany...and it was quite expensive.

The 0W-30 "GC" Syntec is full syn (G4 or G5 cant remember) from Germany, you can find it in stores, but it is expensive. Its a great oil though.

FWIW I find the "full" synthetic arguement to be moot, regular Syntec works great for me, I have awesome UOA's from a few vehicles to back it up. The law of diminishing returns starts to rear its head at this level.

I agree...also, with people changing their oil so often these days, it becomes an even more of a moot point. For me, i change oil every 5k miles...therefore, the advantages of a synthetic oil is very small IMHO. (BTW, my Mercedes G500 uses Mobil 1...and i change that oil every 10k miles.)

I saw an ad for it the other day on TV as well. I thought it was pretty interesting, and though I like the Mobil 1 - if Castrol is just as good (and thier regular dino oil is good stuff anyway) I'd be willing to switch, especially if it were cheaper.

BTW - Thai, you gotta put up your Sig-Sauer avatar again. Gives you a sense of style and sophistication. I have 2 of 'em, and a Kimber 1911. Waiting on my Benelli shotgun to come it. Giddy up!

Yeah, i love my Sig P239!! Style and sophistication? Hmmm...i may change my avatar then! :)

The line between synthetic and conventional is becoming more blurred every day.

Castrol TWS 10w-60 and Castrol 0w-30 are both quality oils. 10W60 is currently running about $11/qt.

You have returned to the sense of style and sophistication with your new avatar. Very smooth.

I have a P229 in .40, and a P245 (now known as a P220 Carry) in .45. Nice weapons good sir.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread. :p

thai: i have a 239 9mm my self, personal carry piece and love it. and the oil issue , i switched from penzoil to castrol because i couldnt find the SUV blend anylonger and started using the castrol syntech. im still changing every 3000 miles using the synthetic blend.
