A340H damage - ATF level issues

Checked again this morning. Totally cold vehicle, ATF up to the lower notch for hot.

I’m going to get the level right to where it should be for cool, Then check it hot.

Well my loss of power was due to spark plug wires being crossed. I knocked two loose while working on it and though I put them back right. I didn’t. I had that epiphany last night and fixed it right when I got home.

Found a good thread on yotatech. Has a lot of good info on the fluid capacity and what not.

Now that I know the feeling of loss of power has nothing to do with the tranny I can relax a bit.

I just want to find a uniform way of checking the fluid. I was concerned that I put way too much in, but reading in yotatech that the total capacity is 10, I’m not so concerned. When I smashed open the pan on the trail it spilled a ton a fluid and kept spilling all the way back to the parking lot. I know more than 5 came out.

drove it around town, ran great and shifted fine. Level still a little low though. I think I prematurely drained too much out. I've found a few other threads documenting how the transfer case fills (one in particular that details what the transfer chain case does and doesn't do with ATF).

I'm guess, crudely, that ATF was getting pumped into the t case and making my level seem to change? coupled with the extreme loss of fluid from the trail damage, made it difficult to know how much space I had to fill?

Hopefully this thread will help someone in the future, if I'm wrong, please correct me so no one is mislead in the future.

*cheers to learning the hard way. on everything.
