When first starting out in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th the engine is fine. However, when the car shifts into 5th gear, it seems as though the car is in neutral. The engine does not rev or anything. I then have to shift the car into a lower gear then when lowering my speeds to 3rd, 2nd or 1st, the car seems, as well, to remain in neutral. The only functioning speed is 4th gear.

Does anyone have or have had any problems such as this. If so, what or where can I find information? I believe it is the body valve. Thanks!

First, read what you typed and RETYPE it. It makes 0 sense to me and I read it like 6 times.

Your car drives and shifts fine, UNTIL 5th gear when you think it is in N.

What does that mean? In N? As in it stops moving? Your 5th gear is lock up, and you will drop RPMS quite a bit from 4th. The is the entire points. 5th gear is your "highway" gear. And the 4runners do kinda "groan" when it first drops into 5th. This is because you hit that perfect "resonance frequency". Totally fine and normal.

So, again. Explain in more descriptive terms what is going on, as they way you write it, I have no idea what is wrong.

Ha. Sorry. I read it again and my tone was harsh, which was not intended.

All I mean is the symptoms are hard to read. From the first read it just sounds like the typical 5th gear lock up drone and drop in RPM that is normal.

Otherwise, I don't see how 5th gear would act like N. I could see how the gears are messed up and not engaging, but then you wouldn't even shift into the gear. If the final gear and output are working in 1-4th, then I am assuming it would be a 5th gear issue. Usually auto transmissions make it pretty apparent that it won't go into a gear when it should. Your RPM slams high, your transmission slips or it bucks like a bronco.

Not to mention our trans should be throwing a code....
