As usual, looks great ARK!
My new air filter FINALLY came in from AutoAnything, but I haven't been able to put it in just yet since I've been out of town. I was getting terrible mileage from Panama City to Gainesville, FL - around 18.9 according to the computer and I was driving pretty conservatively. Has your new dry filter had any positive effects?
 
Thanks guys! Doesn't look like I'm gonna be able to get the sway bar bushings put on for another couple of weeks, will give an update once I do though. As for the AFE, I really haven't noticed any difference in gas mileage. I haven't filled up yet so I can't say for sure, but judging from the display it's right where it was before.
 
Few minor updates. I've noticed no improvement in gas mileage after adding the afe filter and removing the hcf. I'm actually getting a little worse than before, but I don't think those are the cause. I finally installed the new swaybar bushings. My 4runner drove pretty flat in corners before, but now it's completely flat. Great mod IMO and relatively low cost. I chose prothane greasable bushings front/rear and energy suspension bushings for the rear end links. Total cost was under $60.

Now I've got a question for you guys. What do y'all think about swapping my 1.25" spacers for 1.5"? I'm most likely sticking with the 255/75/17, so with a narrower tire I'm thinking these may look better and add stability. I'll get at least another year out of my current tires, definitely not buying new tires until then.I know .25" isn't much, but think it may help some. Thoughts?

Not sure about the 1.5 vs the 1.25. It's a 1/2" improvement. Not sure if you'll notice or not. Glad the bushing upgrades worked out. I am going to put that on my next buy list :-)

Glad to help! Sad to say it's probably going to be a different suspension setup. I'm definitely moving the 5100's up to the top notch, should net around 3" lift and will adjust the rear to get the desired stance.

Also, I meant to include this in the original post, but my last 4x4 (had a 97 2wd 4runner and a Mustang between them) was a 90 GMC with 6" lift and 35's, it's my inspiration for the 4runner. Won't be as extreme, but definitely what I'm going towards.

I'm really stuck on the idea of getting the 1.5's but not sure when I can do it? Dam x-mas killed the funds. Love to see how they look with the 255's I am saving for the lift now that is for sure the next item on my list could be soon!!!!:ybrick:
 
Spent the weekend doing installs. So far, added 5100 rear shocks to match the front, Toytec 1/2" (net) spacer to the front, raised the rear up enough to level it out, and also added a 1/2" 4crawler body lift. Currently at 4" total lift (3.5" front, 2.25" rear suspension plus the 1/2" body lift). There will be more to come, stay tuned.

Looks good. Now were running the exact same suspension setup, i love the stance! How was installing the 1/2" BL?
 
I chose the 1/2" because it is easier to install and to keep the gap between body and frame to a minimum. Install was a major pain. Just a couple areas caused problems. Main thing is that I worked probably three hours to get the last puck in place (driver side in front of the rear tire). All the others were easy, but nothing I did allowed for enough room. Not sure what the deal was, but I couldn't get enough clearance. There's no way I could have went any bigger on the lift, I would have never gotten it installed. I'm thinking my rear air suspension is to blame, I've not seen anyone else have this issue. Total install time for the body lift was 7-8 hours. I did the install by myself (I have no experience with this) with the help of my wife. That could probably be cut in half if I were to do it again.

Tires are small, but that won't be an issue for long.

Thanks man, I agree!! On paper the 285's aren't that much bigger, but in person they're monsters in comparison. Got some minor rubbing to take care of, but doesn't look like anything major. I've got about 1/4" clearance to the body mount, which was the main concern. It looks like it'll be fine, time will tell. I've only driven a couple of miles on them so far.
