about to buy a 3rd gen

Hi!

I'm a new member, have been looking for a good manual, 4wd, 3rd gen 4runner for a while now.

The one I'm almost ready to buy is a 1998 SR5 manual, 4wd, 123k miles 4runner for $5500. Would really like feedback from this forum, took the car for a test drive today and a couple of things came up:

1) The front right tire seems to rattle/jingle when it hits a bump, the noise only comes when the car is moving. Would anyone have any idea what this could be? I'm thinking worse case scenario this would be a $400 fix.

2) The tires were very worn out, I looked online and it seems a set of 4 decent tires 265/70/16 will put me back around $400. According to the penny test, i'd say the tread covered around 1/5th of a coin. Any advice on tires?

3) Does it seem like a good deal to you? I'm in the Bay Area and 4runners seem to be overpriced here. The low miles, strong engine and general decent shape of the car have me hooked.

Thats what the price should be. Does it have a switch that says "RR Diff Lock" next to the steering wheel? Manuals are somewhat rare and the low of milage is nice. I say buy it, but get the rattle diagnosed first.

I would ask the guy if you can have a mechanic check it out before you buy it. If you have the button that say RR Diff Lock then it's basically the same the as gold in the 4runner world hahaha. If you do get a chance snaps some pics for us.
