About to Buy...Need Opinions

Hey Guys,

I am about to buy a 4runner this up coming week and I am debating between two of them. I would really like anyones (and everyones) opinion on which they think is a better deal.

1st) 2007 4runner SR5 4x4 6cylinder
14,200 miles
$23,500
Base model with very few accessories

2nd) 2006 4runner Sport 4x4 6cylinder
36,185 miles
$24,998
Lots of options - sport package, moonroof, etc.

Any opinions would be great as I have been stewing on this for a couple of days.

First let me say I have no real basis for my opinion, but I would think that the actual sales price on either one should be about the same and I would venture to guess either one would go for about $23,000. I know the 06 has more miles, but coming from someone that drives about 25,000 per year, it is not a huge difference. The 06 is just getting broken in. That is why I bought the T4R. Mine has absolute 0 problems and I love it. How important are the options to you, color, etc. Get wheichever one you like better.

I would try to get the sport for $23,000. Just my personal preferance. I like the look and std. options on the sport versus the SR5.

I'd take the Sport over the SR5 any day. 36k miles is still pretty darn young especially for a 4runner. I'd talk down the price too though. More bang for your buck with the Sport package. X-REAS is awesome, but if you plan to lift, the SR5 may be easier to do it with. Just curious, what color choices are you given between the two?

If you're driving primarily on-road, the X-Reas suspension in the Sport handles much better. I have a 2006 Sport 4x4 V8 and love it!

When I bought mine a little over a year ago, I drove both. The Sport didn't lean through turns as much, but I saw no discernable difference off-road (yes, I MADE the salesmen let me drive it off road or I threatened to leave on the spot).
But since I dislike the fake hood scoops and spoilers (personal preference) and don't really care about many of the available options like the sunroof or steering wheel controls, (I wouldn't mind those) the SR5 was an easy choice for me.

As you can see from the answers, it largely depends on your preference. Do you like the hood scoop, XREAS, interior trim, etc? Color of the vehicle? Etc. Etc.

No one can tell you what is a better deal.

I dont think so. I have over 20k on my '07. Both seem to be in line.

The color choices are:
Shadow Mica for the Sport and Black for the SR5

I am mostly going to be on-road driving and I like the options of the sport so I think that is the one I will try for.

I was woried about the miles, but you all have calmed my nerves about that.

It is a certified used toyota so it should run forever if properly taken care of

Shadow Mica gets my vote, especially on the Sport Edition. It compliments the stock tube racks and steps as well as the smoked chrome. Hell yes I'm biased.

If it's CPO (Certified Pre-Owned), then the warranty goes up to 7 yr/100k miles.

Personally, I'm biased towards Sport Editions, so that's what I would pick.

I just have to ask, what kind of terrain did he let you take it on just some grass near the dealer, a dirt road. Also did you get a new 4Runner if so I'm surprised he let you take it off-road, but I think its awesome that he did let you.
