I wish I had something to add or to help. Conceptually I am all about the tall skinny's. 255/85/16 is the "right way", IMHO, to get true 33's on a T4R. They are a managable width and the weight is reasonable. Many like the Cooper's, I have little firsthand exposure to the brand.
Wide tires may look cool and in some very specific applications have an advantage. Overall tall & skinny is cool to me... Tenguns just installed tall-skinny on his rig with 235/80/17's and reports great results so far. He's in snow country and mentioned a point that me go Ahhaaa! Tall skinny tires are much easier to chain if you need to chain-up.

Ive got the S/T's and i like them. a little on the loud side, but they quiet down... although ive only had mine for a little over 3000 miles... they pull great in the mud to.

You'll find a lot of info on tall & skinnies over on ExPo. I'd look into the sidewall strength of your tires. When you air down, it will be more exposed to rocks etc.

Hulk311 did you go with the 255/85/16 tires? Would like to know any inputs as far as ride quality. Also please post some pictures, I am also interested in this size tire.

I PM'd him a few days ago... He went w/ a 265/70/17 GY Duratracs... Good choice but I was psyched for a 255/85 report. We've got tenguns on 235/80/17's.

The tires just came in last night. I am waiting to install the Toytech 3" lift and 1" body lift before installing the tires. Should be a good 6" difference between my stock 4runner. :driving:

Does anyone know if these tires will fit on a stock '97 4runner? I have the tires but not the lift. Also, to install the lift do the tires/wheels have to come of?

These tires are amazing in snow. I don't drive in the snow FAST because I'm a very careful driver but during this snow season on the several snow days that we had I was able to do 60mph on the highway (what I normally do on the highway) while everyone else was going like 40-50mph. I've also seen several 4x4 trucks with wide tires fishtail. I would rate these tires on a scale 1-10 on performance in snow as 20/10. In fact, I have to be careful because these tires might make me cocky while driving. But they just give so much confidence in the snow it's ridiculous, while driving in the snow you can't even tell that you're driving in the snow (except that the ride feels softer).
