About to pull the trigger on a 2015 T4R... need some insight

When comparing Trail to the SR5 the biggest "wants" for me were the KDSS , black interior trim pieces and the almighty Level actualted transfer case! The locker was a nice bonus that I have used but getting an ARB instaled on an SR5 would be just as good if not better option.

The hood scoop, wheels, black end caps on roof rack, red stiching, increased data in the center clock display ( i think this was only for 2014 and that the new trails match the SR5s which only have a clock in the center above the air vents and the rest of the data is on the speedo cluster) were just extras. I didnt want a 3rd row so that wasnt an issue (not a factory option on the trail).

All Trims are based on the same platform and all can do more then most drivers pucker factor will allow. Members here have proven you can make any trim into nice looking and capable trail rigs

We are not talking V6 vs V8 Mustangs/Camaro's or Imprezza vs WRX/STi where there are fundamental differences between trims. Besides the one exclusive color choice, these are all just bolt on parts and a watered down bilstein suspension.

IMHO, Trail + KDSS + 6112/5160 + all the TRD bits > TRDP

No matter how "exclusive" and expensive these TRDP's are, they will never have KDSS or a sunroof. Yet anyone can buy the TRDP bits. So if either of those features are important to you and you are the least bit mechanically inclined skip the TRDP.

Now excuse me, I am off to buy the TRDP garnish and badges to piss off the TRDP elitist's. :moon:

I am keeping this car forever. So I would like the option to have the extras. That and the price difference between a trail/SR5 isn't all that different. +/- 2K

This is precisely why I went with the Trail.

Resale is a bit better, which I hope to be irrelevant, but you never know what may happen in a few years. But, if all goes as planned, this will be a car that I will have for 15+ years. I do not want to have it for that long, wishing I had gotten X or Y instead.

Ended up going Premium and with KDSS. Cost me a bit more than I ever intended on spending, but what's 3-4K over the life of the car?

But is KDSS that much of a deal breaker..... this is my ultimate question.

Yeah its exclusive but it doesn't really offer more than a trail with a lift kit on it. I like how its good to go out of the box but I think picking up and slightly modding a trail or SR5 is where I'll get the bang for my buck

Agreed. I bought an SR5 and put 5100's and daystar in the rear and it's probably as capable at this point. I could add the leather for $1,000 at the dealer and I don't care for the front grille.

I do wish I had KDSS though, it's an awesome system.

So I found two MG Trails. One confirmed with KDSS for 36500 and one "supposedly" with KDSS for 37436. I'm checking out the one for 37 here in a bit.

The rep at the 37k price point location also told me that all trails come standard with KDSS and that all TRD Pros have KDSS as well. It was funny cause he told me if I didnt want the trail I would have to spend "extra stacks" on the Pro because it was the only other model that had it... I promptly made him aware of his mistake.

Hopefully I can capitalize on this and try to score a trail w/KDSS cheaper. Going to bring in the paperwork for the 36500 and try to get a war going for my business.

If all pans out I'll have a trail today or by next weekend.

Edit: even a trail for 35ish without KDSS seems like a good deal but I'm willing to spend the coin to get it if its available.

I drove an SR5 without it, a TEP with it, and felt a pretty noticeable difference in just the smoothness when driving around. I was with the salesman so I couldn't really throw the car around as much as I'd have liked to get more of a feel though.

With that said, everything I've read on here thus far tends to fall under two things:

1) if you're going to mod the shit out of the truck, don't waste your time as you'll be ripping it out.

2) if you can afford it, go for it. it makes daily driving much better, and is great offroad.
