About to purchase new tires

hey everyone....

about to purchase some new tires for my 2003' toyota 4'runner limited (with every single option available!) and have narrowed it down to the Bridgestone REVO's! ! ! anyways, i'm looking to get the best price and was curious to what other members have paid for there's in the past.

I also talked to the Firestone guy on the phone (probably find a lot better of a deal on the internet) and he said I could get them in the 265 65 17's or the 265 70 17's. the 265 70 17's were in stock and about 17 bucks cheaper per tire than the 265 65 17's. i think he gave me a price for the 70's all four mounted and balanced for around 690.00 bucks. he did also mention before i buy them somewhere else to let him try to match the price.

i know people say Firestone rips you off but i've taken my civic there quite a bit in the past and they have always been able to out do the competition in price and customer service.

anyways, please help if you can.

oh....and i'm going to go out and take some pictures of the 4'runner and post them here today i hope!

I paid about $730 for 265/75/16's at a Firestone dealer and that included road hazard as well. I could have saved $10 or so per tire but would rather deal with someone locally, get free lifetime rotation, and have somewhere to go should I have any problems.
 
What are the factory size? I have an '05 SR5 with the 17" wheels. My factory tires are the 265/65R17. If you jump to the 70 series you are going to notice a few things. Your gas milage might go down, since those probably weigh more. Also your speedometer will be off, since the 70 series are over an inch taller.

I just got Revos last Wednesday and I love them. I do alot of highway driving, and they are pretty quiet. Mine were around $172 mounted, balanced, road hazard, and free rotations. If you get them before the 15th you get $75 mail-in-rebate.
 
Remember...Revo's price will increase by 8% on Nov 1st. Also if you can get them before the 15th you get the rebate.

I got 4 265-65-17's from Costco for $707, including (Ohio)tax.

That comes out to just over $630 using the $75 rebate. With out the rebate and after the price increase the cost would be about $770.

I ditched the Dunfolps at 11,000 miles. What an unbelievable difference the Revo's made on the confidence I have in the 4-R.
 
My Dunflaps had a little over 14,000 on them when I got Revo's. I still had tread depth, but no traction.
 
What is the big attraction toward the revos? When I replace my tires, I'm looking at the BFG AT KO's. Seems like they are a better, more aggressive tire for offroading.

A good all around tire, not too offroad intensive, yet superior in everyday activities, including inclement weather. at least, that's why i would want to get them..
 
I wanted a tire that works on and off road. The BFG's seem a little too much for on-road driving. The Revos also have an awsome tread pattern. I can't wait for some decent snow to see how they really perform.
 
I run the AT Revos on my 2003 4runner and I run BFG AT KO's on my 2005 Nissan Xterra.

The 4runner sees more on road time and the Xterra more offroad time.

You will find the BFG AT KO's ride harsher since they are LT rated tires and are 8 ply. The Revos are passenger rated tires.

Both are good tires.
 
The only advantages the BFG KOs have are they have a stronger sidewall (8 ply AT rating), which is better when you air down for off-roading and they have a higher load rating. If you only occasionally off-road get the Revos.

Also, if you only occasionally off-road stay with the stock size (265/65/17). The 70s may use a little more gas (I think) because you will be increasing the overall diameter of the tire. This actually changes the final gear ratio. Also the 70s may create problem (mixing sizes) with the spare tire, many people also change the spare when going to the 70s. The 65s will give you a better on-road ride then the 70s. I've been off-road with 70s equipped 4Runners and I was able to go/do anything with the 65s. With a stock 4Runner you will have to take it easy and be careful weather you have 65s or 70s, it really is not going to make that big of a difference.

Kind of depends on the "off-roading". I have read a lot of reviews that say the BFG's pack with mud real easy and don't clean out very well; and a lot of people think the REVOS will actually clean out better. I know, I know - get a mud tire if you want something for mud - but this is not always the best all around choice.
But I do agree the BFG's look more aggressive and they are a great tire.
