So as the title implies I am about to buy my 1st 4runner. I am stoked except I have a slight dillema. The 2 4runners I am looking at are an 08 V8 4x4 Sport w/62000miles on it and the other is an 08 V8 SR5 w/27000miles on it. The SR5 is about 2000 dollars more but that is about it. I really want the Sport but I am concerned with the 62000 miles on it. Should I be worried about that. The Sport is a one owner with all maintenance performed at the dealer on time, the SR5 is a lease turn in. Is it worth the extra 2000 for the lower miles but no 4x4. They are both certified and I will be getting the extended warranty on them. Any insight would be great. Thanks for any help and I look forward to learning more about the 4runner world.

You will regret that. Well, I shouldn't say "YOU" will regret that. I would though. If you think there is even a small possibility you will need or even want 4WD I'd buy one that has it.

I bought my 4x4 sr5 at 60K miles. It has 105k on it now, and it still feels like a new car. 4Runners have a great reputation for holding up very well over 200K miles.

As stated above, unless you know you will not be needing/using 4-wheel drive, then go with the Sport. I just bought a 2006 Ltd with about the same mileage so the 08' your looking at must be mostly hwy miles, so not much worries. Plus the 4X4 is certified, so less to worry about.
Have you driven them yet? Because I test drove all 3 models and for me it was easy, Sport or Ltd (with X-REAS).

In 4th gens, they never did. They are all "all time". I can't speak toward the 5th gen.
Go Sport, cause....it's what I got. Hahaha!!
If they are at the same dealer, put them side by side. I had that opportunity and I have to say, the sport just looked better. Of course, that's only my opinion. I don't like the side steps and non tube racks. I like the useless hood scoop and the black interior. Also, the ride was much better.
Thanks for all the help guys, I didn't expect this much response. You guys have put me at ease about the milage but I need to do more research on the XREAS. I will have to drive it also. It is at a dealer 3 hours away so I am going for a test drive on Saturday, will keep you guys updated.

u can get the v8 with just 2wd also, example: http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=171787 but the 4x4s with v8 are FT4WD.

If the SR5 doesnt have the upgrade package or whatever its called you get a POS plastic steering that feels like a go cart steering wheel.
Now if the SR5 had leather and or power seats and the sport did not that'd be another story although Im partial to the exterior of the sport.

I would definitely go SE. As stated before, on these trucks, that amount of mileage is not an issue. I just bought my '03 with 76k on it and it runs and looks like new. That V8 is a proven engine and should go well over 200k easily. Good luck...truly nice ones are hard to find...

it's all personal opinion on looks and options....if you're concerned about the mileage, don't be. I have 70k on my 08 V8 Limited and it's rock solid. This is my third 4Runner, you can't go wrong either way. Good luck! PS. You'll never regret having a 4x4....just sayin
I appreciate all the support for the 4x4. That is my choice but my wife is going for the 4x2 so that is the issue. For information purposes this will be our 3rd car and not our primary means of transportation. It will be used to pull a horse trailer and atv's. It will probably be our vacation vehicle also. We have a Civic so that is great for the gas milage and I have an 01 Tacoma 4x4 so that covers the 4x4 thing. I just think that since this a 3rd "fun" vehicle might as well get what we want. It has to be V8 and I think the 4x4 gets about the same gas milage as a 4x2 so why not get the V8, ehh.

Two more cents: given your further info, I still think you'd be happier, and safer, with the 4x4. As has been stated, it has more options, mileage is irrelevant and I believe you stated that BOTH had warranties (not that you'll need it, but it provides peace of mind. Besides, WHEN you need 4WD AND want to haul everyone around, the Runner will do it with comfort/space/power. Do either have sunroofs, btw?
