ABS Off Sitch Mod

I got my 4runner about a month ago and love it, Never thought I could love such an old truck..

Heres all that I did to it..
Came with 3" lift
Changed:
belts
sparkplugs
wires
pcv valve
mobile 1 5w30 synthetic w/ m1 filter

I added
knn air filter
silencer removal mod
deckplate mod
Removed all carpet and replaced with hurculiner, came out great.
Pressure washed headliner and it held up great.

Anywas.... Introduction over..

I want to add an abs off switch for offroading..

I think I got it figured out.. If I run a switch on the wire coming from the ABS relay it should cut it out correct?

I detached the wire and vehicle ran with ABS light on.. So before I go and cut the wire and install switch, anybody done this? Does this sound correct?

I had a 1990 nissan truck with no ABS and it sucked at stoping, though it could have been due to its weight or super skinny tires.. Anyways no, switches are awesome, plus I do believe there is an avantage on road, and insurance would throw any claim out without it.

its a preference thing, some can stop better with abs, others stop better without. Switch is a good idea then.

Don't know what year your 4Runner is, but if you have an '01 or '02 model, you can install a switch to disable VSC/TRAC/ABS. I've done it to mine and it works great: http://www.yotatech.com/f127/disabling-vsc-trac-2001-2002-4runner-vsc-trac-systems-103814/

IMO, your version should work. It sounds basically like the same thing we're doing...tapping 2 wires into the abs wire and then running the other ends of the 2 wires thru a switch on the dash. You flip the switch and it breaks current turning off abs/trac/vsc. Only catch is, to reactivate the system, you have to flip the switch back, turn off the vehicle and then restart it. Easy as 1-2-3.

Most times, I'll flip the switch killing abs/vsc/trac and then flip the switch back. All 3 systems remain off until I restart the truck. This just keeps me from forgetting my switch is still activated later.

I was thinking of doing this mod to my truck. There's a similar write up with pictures here:

But instead of wiring it to a fog light switch, I wanted to wire it to a smaller round rocker switch that I could install in the larger panel to the right, like the two round switches here:

I found some switches on Amazon that look like they should work, but they’re rated for 20A. I couldn’t find what the fog light switch used in the write up was rated for. But it seems most aftermarket switches available are rated for 20A or less. I can’t find any info online as to the amps on the wire I’m splicing into, but I know the ABS fuse is 60A, so that has me a little concerned.

Anyone know I’d be ok with the 20A switch?

I have had an abs-off switch installed for years. There’s a wire in the ABS loom you can put on a switch- look around at the Andy Mod posts to find which one (it’s been years).

It’s super great in the dirt where this trucks abs is pitiful and possibly dangerous
