ABS Speed Sensor

Was wondering if anyone else has had issues with the ABS speed sensor on their 4runners. About a month ago, the ABS, Traction Control, 4WD, and 4LO indicators in the cluster all lite up and were flashing. Took it to the dealership and they replaced the ABS speed sensor on the drivers rear. This past weekend, the same lights started flashing again, except this time, its been intermittent, they'll be on at the start of a trip, then shut off after a few miles, or vice versa.

Any other 5th gen owners having the same problems? Trying to figure out if its common or not. Our 4runner is a 2011 SR5. The dealership said that its still drivable, just the ABS, traction control and the 4WD will not work. Hoping its not another ABS sensor, it was ~$400 to fix the last time around.

TIA!

Check to make sure the sensor wire is plugged in properly. You've got sensors and wires on all four corners, but I'd start with the one they replaced. When I replaced one of my sensor wires it was a pain in the ass to unplug, so who knows, maybe they damaged the wire when they unplugged it from your faulty sensor. The good news is the wire is half the price of the sensor.

Have you ever had any suspension work done (namely, a lift install)?

Maybe one thing you can check is the actual ABS sensor wires, since if who ever working on it is not careful, they can easily break the wire w/o any external visual signs. The wire sheath is thick rubber and well the core is copper. Rubber stretches, and cooper does not, lol. Maybe the intermittent issue you are experience is due to a slight break inside the wire that's sometimes touching, sometimes not. Only way to check this is pull off each wire and measure it with an ohm meter while tugging at it.

Same issue, dealer says faulty wire

I experienced this issue this week. Took it to the dealer as I was at a complete loss (Found all kinds of post where the check engine light came on with these but mine was void of that). Just ABS, Traction 4WD and 4LO lights came on.

So, dealer told me that the wire that runs to the speed sensors is grounding out somewhere between the harness and the wheels. I paid a diagnostic fee today of 100 which they'll apply torward replacing the harness which comes in at 300 dollars. I'm debating doing it myself but am struggling finding a good guide or online video that shows the cable and the routing.

The ABS harness themselves aren't expensive they roughly $60.00 and easy to replace yourself. Unless your dealer is swapping out something else, no way should it cost $400.00. They only installed the speed sensor, not the wire is that correct?

This is my front ABS sensor:

You can purchase them here:

I'd try to figure which sensor is the faulty one and swap it out then do a complete Zero-Point/YAW calibration. I've broken a couple of these harnesses from over stretching them while doing suspension work. They are very fragile. Anytime one goes out your dash will be lit like a Christmas tree.
