absolute yota's build thread

So I did some wheeling, and I painted the center console and center stack trim red. I think its too much, but not sure where to go from here. I did the 3M headlight restore and it took like 3 hours but it worked great !I added a "I drive over stuff" decal and some TRD 4runner decals for extra horsepower. Installed 7 inch touchscreen with nav, keeping the factory JBL amp and adding a 300 watt 12 jbl sub and amp.

A pic of where the front bumper and skid plate come togther as requested. The camers on the licence plate worked well except the image is reversed since its intended to be a back up cam. I will get a forward facing cam soon. Id like to figure out a way to record the image kinda like a go pro so I can take skid plate p.o.v. footage on the trails

So I did a bunch of trail rides and last time we got into some really deep mud, swamp areas. I ended up destroying my rear brakes, which needed to be done anyway.I pulled apart all the brakes to clean the mud out, hoping to solve the noises . I pulled the rear rotors apart and screwed up the parking brakes so Im waiting for those to come in. Seems a little complicated but hopefully I can handle it. Aslo bent the transfer case skid crossmember because the very end of it caught a rock. It held quite well just moved a little bit. I need to pull it off. I also may need new pulleys but havent driven enough to tell yet. ALso got some nice new scratches :violin:

Hmm...would you consider painting it black? Might look real clean and give the rest of the dash some contrast...

Thinking of black, maybe a little red to break it up. Or changing to a dark red. I dont know its fine for now i guess . Of course my woman has to bust my ass every time she gets in the truck. She says its becoming my mid life crisis, I said no that will be either a fast car or a full blown trail buggy. She just rolled her eyes.
:moony:

How is the Rola rack holding up? Any issues with rust, rattling, etc?

The rolla rack has been on for a year now. I did paint it (over the factory paint) with a few coats of black spray before I put it up and I siliconed up the joints in the extension. I see some rust on it but its only the screws, I might change them or touch up the paint and silicone soon. After I repair the scratches all over my truck from recent trail exploration . All in all its pretty good actually better with some weight on it because it rattles less. I have my spare tire, Hi lift jack and a shovel up there and I love it.

Some more pics of the skids as requested. You can see the crossmember is folded back a bit. That rock gouged the front skid, a frame cross member, bent the transmission skid and bent the transfer case cross member( part of the skid not the truck). Lets just say I was going down hill and couldnt avoid it so I rode it all the way down. The skids worked great. Zero damage to my rig and the skids are still strong no repair needed as far as I can tell. I also found the rattle thanks again to the search function on t4r.org , it was the muffler heat sheild which came completley off and was just resting on top of the muffler.

The stupid heat sheild that my driveshaft was hitting. God awful noise ! I have no idea how to get it back in withiout dropping the exhaust. Might be a magnaflow in its future ! I think I have a manifold or exhaust leak anyway its only a matter of time .

Thanks for the reply! I am going to order one of these with the extension soon. I am just not willing to drop that kind of cash to get a Gobi or ARB. It will serve its purpose, as you have shown, and looks better than just the OEM bars.

Thanks again!

I had an issue due to the fender liner being trimmed. It left a hole right at the air intake spot. I got mud in my engine and wouldn't start for about 45 minutes on the trail. It finally started and ran fine the rest of the day. after removing and cleaning the crap out and doing 3 oil changes to be sure it was clean its good as new. I took the skids off to have a trans service done so I took a pic of those. Also removed the old XREAS equipment to make room on the frame to weld the sliders.

Where do you guys wheel ct? I also live in ct and I havent found anywhere to wheel other than some roads in nepaug state forest. Great build by the way! Love the interior!

0531141908b.jpgSo, I put on the snorkel from the 96 hi lux. It did require some heating and bending to fit but it looks great. I plumbed it into the stock fender box location. I also added the 1/2 Toytec spacers on top of my 885s and Daystar 1.5 inch spacers on the rear coils. I love the height but now I need longer shocks because the OME aren't ing enough to really drop out much. I ordered 28 inch long Fox racing shocks (non resi) which I will install next week. I also just got a 4 crawler 1.25 inch body lift That I might start on today if I don't have work.

Today I finished up my custom extended travel rear suspension. It's got OME 895 coils with a 1.5 inch daystar spacer and 28 inch long Fox 2.0 shocks intended for an F150 (same valving) . Shown are my spring helper bump stops and home brew brake extension
