You have to give the AC time to reach your set temp. You will know when the fan speed changes to slow. You could use a thermometer to see how close the temp. really is and adjust accordingly. I find that with the recalculating button lit the AC works very effective at cooling down in a timely manner. With the light off it's shit.
As far as the radio, I find the more volume you add the better the sound quality/definition.

Since we are talking about A/C, has anyone noticed that at times the A/C seems to get warmer when the vehicle slows down. This doesn't always happen and I was thinking that it might be due the the RPMs. At times it stays warm for only a couple of seconds and at other times it seems to stay warm for around a minute or so. I keep my temp at 70 degrees. I don't use the auto feature either.

Anyways, hey 808Sport, are you experiencing the same? When I'm driving for a good 15 mintues with the temperature set at 72 it is really comfortable, but all of a sudden warm air starts to blow in from the vents. I don't know what would cause it because I'm going at the same speed and the recirculate button is on.. This hot air continues to blow for a few minutes. Once I set the temperature below 70, it starts to get cold again.

I also find the A/C in my '05 4Runner to be kind of weird. Sure, it works fine......but whoever designed the buttons and knobs on it should take a long walk off a short pier. I never use the "auto" feature and usually just leave the darn thing on "low" all the time. While it gets cool enough inside - even when it is 90+ outside, the system is too cryptic to mess with it.
Maybe I am "old school" in that regard, but I would favor simpler, manual controls. I prefer an analog slide or dial instead of the numbered temperature readout that may use a thermostat somewhere with a temp that is different than what is blowing at your face.
Toyota should have spent the money on separate temp HVAC controls for the driver and front passenger. Anyone who has a wife or a girlfriend knows exactly what I mean. They complain because it is "too cold" in the cabin during the summer and they'll want their feet to roast in the winter months. Ah, women!
Other than that, I really, really love my 4Runner and totally enjoy driving it.

I have mine set at 68 (auto) with the recalculating button lit. This seems to be the comfort zone for me, but I like it a little cooler then most. After you find that zone, the controls will grow on you. You have to use the auto mode or you will be fiddling with the controls all the time.
As far as the temp going down at low RPM, yes, all AC systems will be more effective at higher RPMs. Also the compressor does not run continuous, it cycles on and off. This is why sometimes when idling you may feel the drive train pulse. The RPM are raised when the compressor clutch kicks in. Some systems will disengage the compressor when you put a heavy load on the motor. The AC takes a certain amount of power just to run; this is why it affects your gas mileage.

Jeff: I hear ya man. My wife is always in sandals and shorts while I am always in sneakers & jeans. Duel climate control is something that I really miss.

When I drive to work in the morning (over the Pali), I usually have my AC off and recirc off and it's comfortable for me.
When I drive home in the late afternoon, I turn the AC on to "auto" and set the temperature to 67 (or LO) to quickly cool it down. Halfway home (again over the Pali), I usually turn the temp up to 71 or else it becomes too cold.
I think I've only manually adjusted the fan setting once or twice; otherwise, setting the temp and leaving everything else to "auto" works fine for me.
When the car is in motion, the stereo is contending with engine, road, and wind noise, so I would expect the volume to seem softer compared to standing still.
My JBL is usually set around 21 - 25. If I'm listening to a CD, depending on the volume level of the CD, I may raise it to 31 - 35.
I really like the steering-wheel controls for the radio, as I'm able to dynamically adjust the volume with very little effort as I drive.
