AC blend door actuator

symptoms: ac/heat doesnt change temp when the knob is turned. dealer diagnosed and said its the blend door actuator. they also stated code b1441.

who's done it, how big of a pain in the dock is the dash to remove to get to the blend door? I did a advanced search and nothing popped up.

dealer quoted 2500 to fix lmao

Seems tad steep, I changed one on a 2016 mks years ago. Part will probably be $50-100 tops. Quick search for repair there isnt much on the 5th gen but its probably near footwells or in the glove box area

$2400 to replace a $100 part is always galling but doesn't sound absolutely insane to me given the labor involved. I just disassembled nearly my entire interior, dash included, and I didn't get as far in as you'd need to in order to replace that part. I wouldn't say the job is difficult but getting it in pieces without damaging anything (knicks and scratches) could be. My rig is already pretty beat up so wasn't a factor for me. Removal and reinstallation probably took me about 20 hours but I did a lot of cleaning and re-running aftermarket wiring while I was in there. YMMV

Few tips if you decide to do this yourself:

The upper part of the plastic housing around the harness behind the dash cluster is removable. Remove it after disconnecting the harness behind the cluster and save yourself a headache later on.

There's a bunch of airbags in there. Make sure your battery is disconnected.

If its not easy or relatively straightforward, you're probably doing it wrong - stop and re-evaluate.

Your steering wheel will be in the way. You'll have to deal with it or remove it. I chose to deal with it but bought myself a couple scratches on the dash (they have company). I have to imagine they install the dash before the wheel in the factory.

thanks guys! yea that last pic is about what I expected. removing dash pieces/steering wheels isnt a big deal. the issue for me is that it's ALL the dash pieces lol. we have the perfect opportunity this week to knock this project out.

Just an FYI, you have posted in the 5th Gen forum, you have a 4th Gen, you'll get more answers from 4th Gen owners if you posted in that forum.

If you raised the temperature setting to warm and then it wouldn't get cold again when lowering it then yes it very well could be....BUT if not then no it's something else...if the compressor isn't engaging it maybe a relay or low on freon, a sensor, several possibilities.

Help Removing Drivers Side Air Mix Servo Motor

Hijacking this thread in case anyone’s able to help me with my issues. I have a bad air mix motor based on my research and troubleshooting. I have a 2017 limited with dual-zone AC and the driver’s side is not switching between hot and cool air. It seems that the motor I need to replace is the most accessible motor (located in the driver’s side footwell), but I can’t figure out how to remove it. I’ve unscrewed the two obvious screws that are holding it in, which allow me to move it back and forth, but I can’t pull it out. I’m using plenty of force but being careful not to break it.

Does anyone have any tips for getting it out? Is this not as removable as I think it is? I can’t imagine it requires a full dash removal, but what do I know.
