Hello guys,

I have recently noticed that my AC unit is constantly stays on. I can hear how the clutch gets engaged when I turn the AC button ON but then the compressor will run non stop without cycling. When I turn the AC button OF the clutch gets disengaged.
What can be wrong?
Thanks!

It sounds as if it working correctly. If the AC isn't blowing cold, check the sight glass on the drier for bubbles as well as take a pressure reading on the low side with the AC on MAX.

Had the same issue when I first bought my 96. After diagnosing it by looking at the sight glass, I concluded that the expansion valve was stuck not, this freezing over the evaperator. New receiver dryer and expansion valve, as well as cleaning out the evaperator and it was good as new.

The Ac compressor can still cycle if the expansion valve is stuck however , I forget which side gets really hot when it’s supposed to be cold.

Just fixed this on my girlfriend corolla. Her Ac compressor was cycling and at sometimes it even pumped cold air. But after a while it stopped pumping cold air. And so it was either high or low side that was hot when it was supposed to be cold. So that indicated bad expansion valve.
