2007 sport AC problem

This is a strange issue. My AC runs great, ice cold even in 100*F OK heat, no noises or fluctuations. Fully charged and verified by sight glass. What started happening is after driving, I park it, an hour later I start it up again and the AC button is flashing and compressor wont engage. Turning off the engine and restarting doesnt change anything. To me it seems electrical or possibly a worn clutch with too large of a gap to engage.
The next day, it starts and runs fine until I park it and it repeats again. This is a new thing, never happened before this August heat wave.

Checking Rockauto prices on compressors it would run about $280 shipped.

Where should I look first? Can the clutch be adjusted?

I think that AC button flashing should be setting a code. I believe there is a way to read it without a code reader or you could use something like a Bluedriver.

Thanks for that link. That looks to be more for head unit diagnostics. Nothing regarding compressor cycling. The more I search, it seems like the high pressure switch might be the culprit. The compressor seems to operate perfectly fine when its running. Even a worn clutch should squeal a little. I havent had much luck with aftermarket electronic parts for my toyotas. Got to find out what toyota charges for this part.

Im open to suggestion on other causes.

I don't know if it applies but this seems to be an issue with some Gen4s

The items I'd check for a flashing AC light are, in order:

- Failed pressure sensor or wiring
- Wiring for ac clutch lock sensor (sensor itself is almost too simple to fail)
- AC relay (easy to check just swap with an identical relay in the fusebox but be warned if its this you're gonna disable whatever other system you swap with)
- AC """amplifier""" (hard to debug without having a junkyard unit to swap)

I doubt it's the compressor itself.

I replaced the relay already. Compressor seems fine. And it only happens when its very hot after running. I will jumper the pressure switch next time it happens to see if it turns on.that switch is a simple two wire plug.
