AC out again

Well, went to houston this weekend and it was upper 70's and driving in the sun required ac. Well the ac light starts to flash and I already know its the relay. Grab the fog lights relay and have ac again but this recently happened to me about a year ago. Does this relay go out often? Its not cheap from the dealer and is denso so I figured it would be pretty reliable Maybe just a flake??? Anyone else have problems with this relay?? My fogs have never gone out, so I am thinkin maybe something with the ac causing the relay to go out faster??? Thanks for any help.

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17634 Read this entire thread. I would add the diode mod shown on page three.

Thanks man, have you tried the diode mod? I have already purchased a new relay but in that thread they stated a tsb is out for the relay? Whats toyotas fix besides a new relay? Thanks
I haven't tried the mod as I haven't had the problem yet but I can tell you that Rando the poster in that thread is one sharp dude. Everything he posted as a fix worked great. We lost a good one when he sold his 4Runner and quit posting. Anyway good luck with this! Toyota's fix is the upgraded relay, but the arcing across the points still exists and will probably take down that relay eventually too. I guess they like to sell replacement parts more than actually fix it.
