AC outlet powering sump pump during storm?

Would the stock AC power outlet on my 08 Urban runner put out enough power to run my sump pump in my basement? Also, would I have to hold the throttle slightly over idle to get rated output from it?

To accurately answer that you need to calculate the wattage of your sump pump as well as the wattage that your AC Outlet puts out, about 100w.

I can't pull the pump out of the hole the way it is plumbed but, going by measurements and appearance it looks like a 1/3 horse pump that would pull 11amps/900watts with a 25' power cord (4runner to pump). So, it isn't that much power needed but, I wonder if the 4runner at idle would be enough?

You are right, I really need to know the exact pump I have because the more I look at 1/3 hp pumps the numbers are all over. I found some that only pull 5 amps on a 10 foot cord at 115vac. I'll do some more research.

Those stock ac outlets are designed to recharge lap top computers and cameras etc. Not enough power for 1/3 hp pump and power tools.

Sorry I am late to this one but no way will your truck run a sump pump, not only for power requirements but your outlet in the truck doesn't have the ground lead like a sump pump plug usually has.

If you are worried about your sump pump going out there are some really slick dual pumps that run off a battery. Here is some info on them:

Get a large(er) converter and use clips to connect to your battery. You will be surprised what you can power as long as you have your truck running.

Pulling a heavy load on just the battery will result in a dead battery in no time flat. Don't ask how I know this !!!
