Acceleration ticking

Im deaf, but my wife hears a ticking or clicking noise while pushing accelerator while in drive. She took it to the dealer today and this is what happened:

1. 2 technicians drove truck to see if there was a noise(first one didnt hear it like I dont.)
2. they test drove 2 other limited 4R off the lot(brand new.) Both had same noise but for some reason not as loud as ours.
3. inspected for something loose in engine compartment.
4. Found nothing and said its normal. (WTF a clicking noise is NOT normal for a 40k dollar SUV.)
5. My wife had to fight with the manager to get them to open a claim with toyota on Monday about this because a new car should NOT do this.

My question is has anyone else had this issue? Did they figure out what it was? Solve it?

Also I just wanted to bring this to everyones attention.

Haven't heard anything like you're describing. The only "clicking" I sometimes hear is the.clicking or crackling inside the dash - It's almost mechanic.

a lot of toyotas have that noise- both 6 and 4 cyl. it is perfectly normal.
it is a VSV (vacuum valve) doing it's job.

Could be the eco meter going on and off. My 4R makes a little clicking sound that you can hear if it's quiet enough.

I hear something when I take off from being in PARK. I always thought it was a sensor for the seat belts or airbags.

can you get your wife to get a video with it, so we can hear and see the clicking? Post it on youtube? share the link?

The 4.0 has always been a little noisy, the timing chain makes noise and the injectors tick. You may want to try 0w-30 oil.

Update

Took the 4R into the dealer the other day. They ran diagnostics and sent back to Toyota. They want the car Wed. and are paying for a rental car for us. They admitted the noise was louder on our 4R and need to fix it. I got this in a message and havent talked to them yet about what they will do. I will let you know when the explain it to me. I know parts are going to be replaced next week. If you stay on them long enough to fix a problem, it will get fixed. They know something is wrong with the vehicle though. Thats at least a start. :boink:

My wife took the car to the dealer last tuesday night and was given a rental 4R at no charge when they had ours. They had the truck until Saturday afternoon when they finally finished with it. Heres a list of things that they did.
1. Found noise coming from underneath dash
2. Remove panels under steering wheel.
3. Swap parking brake, brake pedal assy, and gas pedal.
4.swapped front exhaust pipe to elevate exhaust.
5. Found noise coming from ABS actuator.
6. Preform active test on actuator.
7. Accumlator pump interval failure- replace abs actuator
8. put "anti rattle material" in place.
9. reassembled truck.

Only problem is they say that there is no noise and the case closed. NOT THE TRUTH. My wife is still hearing the noise. I guess im going to have to step in now. Im going to the gm of the entire dealership and telling him I want a different vehicle. This is freaking nonsense. Can I lemon law this in FL because of the defect? THats my next step. Is anyone else experiencing this? Not a good first time Toyota buyer experience.

It's normal! Haven't you been reading the responses in this thread. Your one of those people that throw a huge fit about a problem that's not even there. Lemon Law...you must be kidding hahahahahaha.

Heres the thing, its people like you that say its "normal" because you give in and accept that. They have already found one faulty part on our 4r now and had to replace it. Its not normal for a 40k dollar truck to make that noise. Why are people so easy to accept answers from people because they are too lazy to follow through. You may think its "normal" but its NOT. For the dealer to agree with me and to tell me its getting louder is not normal. Especially when they admit it shouldnt be making the noise. So again, im glad you think its "normal. You and the noise can be normal and ill get mine fixed. k thanks.

Ok buddy and you go tell a Lancer Evolution owner that his powertrain should be quite. I'm tired of these people on this forum that make threads about their valves ticking, brakes hissing when engaging, tranny feeling weird/making noises etc. Vehicles make noises when certain components operate like their supposed too. Please drive a proper sports car then talk to me about "weird" noises.

And a 4R is not a sports car dumbass.
