Accessing spare without proper tools

I was planning to drop my spare this evening to give the rear diff another go. Problem is I don't seem to have the part of the tire changing set to lower the spare.

Is there a way to drop it without says tool?

Good thing you found out now...!
Looking at the crank, I'd venture to say the best options are:

Find a fellow 3rd gen (other later gens?) and borrow tool
Hit the boneyard and check under the seats

ETA: I didn't know it was the same size as a long extension - cool!

A really long extension or a couple put together works, but the proper tool is always best. Check the regional forum for someone that might be willing to help.

Found a website that I can order a new one for $26. Looks like the easiest option. Prob not a cheap as searching junkyards but a whole lot faster.

18" 3/8" extension is cheap and fast and you will have a useful tool.

Duralast/3/8 in. drive 18 in. extension bar (73-818) | Extension Bar | AutoZone.com

thanks Durk. Thats even better!

You guys are awesome on the forum.

The day after I bought my 4runner I removed the spare tire but didn't figure out where the jack and tools were until a few days later. Luckily I already had a long extension that I now use to change my oil filter.
