**accident photos**totaled or not?**

A few people have made the point that Anon doesn't know the people's situation and they don't know his. They may not realize some aspects of living in a semi-affluent family. They were not (and I do NOT intend to say that Anon has dealt with these things!)

* EXPECTED to excel in school, likely in advanced classes in high school
* EXPECTED to excel in extracurricular activities (academic as well as social or athletic)
* EXPECTED to do ALL work assigned and extra credit with NO excuses
* EXPECTED to get full scholarships to good colleges
* EXPECTED to make the right decisions while living with a father who works overseas most of the time
* EXPECTED to present the proper image to his parents' associates at all times for business reasons

Few others here have any idea of the requirements of home life, what chores are required, whether a nearly psychotic level of cleanliness is required ("You left the Mayo out. You're grounded for the weekend." "But I only left it out while I made my drink after making the sandwich!" "Too bad. More backtalk and you'll be grounded for a month!")

Let's not forget that blessed and spoiled are two VERY different things. Having what you need and want without great struggle does not mean you don't know how to struggle.

I think everyone's views have been at least somewhat covered, so let's get back to the totaled/not totaled debate.

Now I know I'm not the only one who was thinking it. Thanks for saying it.

"anonymous4runner": If you were my kid you'd be paying for all that out of your own pocket. You would be buying yourself your own car to smash up next time, and taking out your own insurance policy. Its your responsibility. Think about how much your dad is paying just to have you on his insurance in the first place. Young male under 25. Expensive. Honestly you sound like you're entitled to everything you have, whether you earned it or not. Not cool. So anyway, now this, his policy is going way up because of you. Talking about BMW's and and brand new $30,000 to $38,000 cars.... Get your head on straight man. You're not going to be handed freebies through out your whole life, get used to being a man and take charge. The first step is admitting that you f-ed up, so kudos. Next, take some action and some responsibility for yourself. It'll give you some pride and self-worth that no car or material object will give you. Good luck tracking straight.

Ok i really don't disagree with you guys but, me as a male under 25 with full coverage and low(ish) deductable on my parents policy is about $600-$700 a year for me on as a driver of the 4Runner, but then again i have no accidents nor claims.

The OP seems to have a front end collision and you probably ran into the back or side of someone, probably due to a lack of paying attention. But i cannot confirm this as i dont know what happened. And i dont feel that he should have to pay for insurance as a kid, although repairs and fuel are all yours. If your dad wants to get you a $40k BMW more power to ya, as i have many friends with 300-400hp cars at 18 and 19 and they are more than responsible enough to handle them (except for rear tire and clutch life), and they know a thing or 2 about whats happening under the hood and they al, but considering you just totaled a car that is slower than sh*t, i hate to see what you would do with an M3. As i also have friends with more money than sense and they go out and wreck daddies Range Rover, and daddy pays to fix it. I wish you good luck with your search for a new car, but i reccomend you getting something fairly slow or average, no driver aids, no fancy headunits, and with a manual so your not as distracted.

your father is letting you down and the country down, i come from a fairly well off family as well, but it doesn't mean i wasn't expected to make my own way through the world on top of going to school and all of the rest, don't get me wrong it was nice having that life line where i could call and borrow a few hundred bucks here and there if there was an emergency, but when it came down to it i was expected to buy my own trucks and pay for my life myself,
your being carried right now, if you realize it or not, next time your in class look around, do you think all of those other kids are like you?? nope, they all go to work and earn money to go out on a friday night and not call daddy up for some drinking money, school is easy kid, and it's nothing like the real world, i can already see you growing up to be one of these idiots sitting out in a lawn complaining there's no f'ing jobs while a guy my age with a masters degree is serving you your f'ing starbucks.....tosser.... sorry this sort of thing makes me sick, and i hope to hell this is just a troll.......

Again, thanks for everyone's input/concerns. This time, I'm not going to address them. I just wanted to let you all know that the truck is totaled where it will cost about almost $7,400 to restore the truck back into its glory. I am awaiting a phone call from my father where we will discuss things. Again, it may not be a big deal to you all but I am very sad about this new update. However, we all know we can't go back into time if we wanted to. It is just not possible. The only thing we can do is move forward and go with the flow.

REST IN PEACE.

Good luck with your next ride. I also had parents that provided a lot for me. And some might think i was spoiled. my family also told me that i didn't have to work while in school, was provided with a ride and insurance, etc etc. The difference.... I worked two summer jobs though high school and was able to keep my grades up in the school year. And one summer during college i worked 4 part time jobs. There shouldn't be any excuse for you to not have a summer job. Just my 2¢. And again good luck with the new ride.

@Anon, good luck and please heed the advice given by others. No one is entitled, man up ect. already said above.

@adder70, the items you listed are not directly related to affluence. There are plenty of kids from low income families whose parents expect them to achieve all the things in your list. That list is CALLED LIFE and it applies to kids from all backgrounds. If you are expected to "go to a good college" and your parents will pay for it then you have it good and should be thankful vs. feeling entitled. And as far as the stuff about your Dad, well newsflash, plenty of kids from lower income homes have @sshole fathers but I do sympathize. Joining the military would be good for you but I could say the same thing about a lot of kids "these days".

I guess I killed the thread.

@Brian - Thanks but you definitely murdered the thread hannibal style. Stay away from me :bigok:

However, I have spoken to my father. Things are settled, I am now looking into....unfortunately a 4th gen 4Runner. However, with great thing things comes with sacrifice. I told my dad I would pay half for the truck as I feel responsible for the accident. I was going to use it for my new apartment when I graduated, but I'd still make money over the summer for sure. Thanks for the wise wisdom folks, 'tho I didn't appreciate it at first. I kno my dad would have no issues buying another truck with his own $ but I wanted to help out as I am responsible for it.

Edit: Also, I got the detailed list of the parts that are damaged. Pretty sure they're parts, because it's numbered from smallest to largest; but anyway....there are total of 73 parts that are damaged. They are about $5,000 excluding labor which would cost a little less than $3,800

^the only good trucks (in my opinion i've seen thus far). Some of you guys may think it's too expensive for my 2nd car, I understand but this time my money is involved as I am paying half for the truck. I will take extra care, on top of the care I have given to my previous vehicle. If you guys know any good places that are selling solid 4Runner's, preferably somewhat customized 3rd Gen 4Runners built for off roading in NC/VA/DC area. Let me know.

That's like a woman saying "Unfortunately my chest is too big."

I fail to see how getting a 4th Gen 4Runner would be an unfortunate thing.

Although the concept of getting a 4Runner for your second vehicle is very awesome, but I've always been a huge fan of 3rd gen 4Runners since I Thought they looked better than any generations (except 2011, those are badass looking). I had no luck finding a 3rd gen with low mileage and right price, but then it's 3rd gen....i'd be impressed if someone still had a 3rd gen under 50k miles. ANy input though on those vehicles? Haven't test driven either, yet

Question: for the Black 4Runner 2003, is it 4WD? I had a second stick next to the primary stick for my 3rd gen truck (it was an automatic tranny). Is this vehicle off road suitable?

If you love the 3rd gens look harder for one. Be patient, I was and I found almost exactly what I wanted. Why go through the pain of paying off a huge loan on a 4th gen when you can get a kickass 3rd gen for less than half the money? If you find a nice 3rd gen for 6 or 7 grand, then think of it that you have an extra 8 or 9 grand for mods since you didn't buy the 4th gen :jump:.

Oh and 3rd gen mileage, don't sweat it. Whatever you buy though, make sure when you go to look at it, you look it over very thouroghly. Take someone with you who isn't as excited as you. Remember, if it's not what you are expecting or if you have that sketchy gut feeling about it, walk. Something you like better will always show up.

@Madbomber - Thanks for the helpful comment.

As for finding a 3rd gen...I may have found my whip's twin.

2001 TOYOTA 4RUNNER 4+4

This deal seem sketch at first glance, which is why I emailed the owner requesting additional pictures & a detailed list of specs that is on that particular 4Runner. Mine was a '99, this one is a '01. Same color. Slight different fender colors (mine was black on silver metallic). I told him I would wait until Tuesday for a complete email including a detailed list of specs & additional pictures before I consider the thought of test driving the vehicle.
