Accleration problem when in Drive

When i put my 4runner into drive it doesnt accelerate, it just stalls out and then eventually it will catch on and take off. At first it only did this a couple times but now it happens everytime i put it in drive. Please tell me this aint the trasmission. Any ideas on what it might be?

I've seen a really dirty fuel filter cause similar symptoms on a Ford.
