i also had hard water spots on my windows. what i did was used rainx window cleaner and a window rag called mysticmaid. it works extremely well and the plus side is it cleans any surface so you can use it on anything. go to mysticmaid.com it runs about 20 bucks but in my opinion well worth it

Shot in the dark here but when you slide your hands across the glass does it feel bumpy or smooth? I had a gf at one point whose father bought a 5 year old truck with only 15k on the odometer. He asked me to look at some "water spots" on the windshield which turned out to be clearcoat overspray. You should have seen the shotty weld spots on the frame rail. Turns out the truck was a rental until someone slid it sideways... into a tree. CARFAX! :bash:

Get some "0000" steel wool and some foamy glass cleaner and have at it.
But don't go crazy with the steel wool on the glass.
Spray the window with glass cleaner and with the steel wool rub the whole window with it, then take a towel and dry it off. If the glass cleaner doesn't work, try distilled white vinegar.
Or do like a small portion of the window to see if it did anything?

there are a couple of things you can use. the stuff you can find anywhere i've heard vinigar works to get hard water off, Ive used a razor blade along with windex to get it those spots off and its worked and if all else fails order up som Cerium Oxide. that stuff will for sure take scratches and everything making you look like you have a brand new windshield. it will take some work though
I'll second the steel wool. I used to have a window cleaning bidness and steel wool was a staple. The spots you talk about are most likely mineral deposits that accumulate after time. Most peoples house windows have them, just check yours.
If you go this route, make sur you hose off the truck after due to little pieces off steel wool that will stick on and start to rust.

x2. I live in Washington and it rains all the time, constantly leaving me with these spots. Sprayaway and some elbow grease with a microfiber towel will take them off guaranteed.

On the Big Island we have bad acid rain from the volcanic gases in the air and it is very damaging to car paint and glass. I have pretty bad water spots on my windshield and next time I detail the 4Runner I'll give the vinegar or steel wool a try. So far regular window cleaning products have not worked for me.
I got a bunch of overspray on my truck when I painted my 65 chevy. I used the clay bar all over my runner, even the windshield! It worked great and was much easier than the razor.
One other thing, I used to put stuff on the dash, like Armor All and it would evaporate and leave a film on the inside of the windshield. That can be a problem too.

+1 on the clay bar. I detail my truck often and the clay bar will definitely take off those water spots. It's insane the things it picks up!
