Activating 3rd Smart Key FOB 2022 TRD PRO

I bought a 3rd key fob for a new 2022 TRD PRO directly from the toyota dealer. It will be a spare key -- we always seem to lose one of them.

Question: can I activate / pair this new KEY FOB myself........or does it need to be done at the dealer. The 4runner is being stored at my summer house and I don't want to pull it out and drive it to the dealer if I can just do it myself when I get to that house.

I did see some comments about programing smart keys that looked like to one I have for a 2014 limited ----but the key for the 2022 is different.

Yes, you can program it yourself. You will need a programmer that plugs into the vehicle's OBD II port. There are companies that will rent one out to you and include instructions on how to do it. I bought a virgin key from a vendor on eBay and rented a programmer. The process takes a couple of minutes with the programmer.

Smart key, may need techstream. I have been trying myself to register a spare key through techstream. Seems easy to use, just having issues with the spare key I bought, I think. Low battery? idk... gave up after a couple hours

Heads up - I was able to program an additional key for my 2020 TRDP smart key no issues with Techstream.

We tried the same method with my brother's 2022 TRDP and it asked for a key code to be generated to add a key. I'll try to dig up the post from the Lexus forums, but basically it now requires a unique key code that needs to be generated via the TIS website - note that this is different from the seed codes that are available online. The only options I saw to program a key was to go to a Toyota dealer or a locksmith with a TIS Security Professional subscription.

No idea if a key programmer would work since the key code has to be generated on a TIS web page.
