add a leaf questions

so i have the same problem as anyone else with a 4runner with stock rear springs, sag. can i expect add a leafs to raise the rear end up 1.5 inches or so and make the springs bow in the right direction or is that too much to ask for something you pay $40 for?

In one word, yes. I have seen add-a-leaf work in several applications. I may not raise it a full 1.5 inches, but it definately will go a solid inch. About the springs going in the right direction.... I'm not possitive that it will straiten it out, but it will raise the rear end. Sam

My aal kit added about 4 inches to my 89 4r.

AALs, typically, perform as advertised. Not advertised is the rougher ride that comes with them. If you can get the longer AAls the ride will be better than with the short ones.

thanks a lot. about the rough ride thing... i figure the ride isnt all that great anyway, might as well make it worth it.

generally, that's a true statement, but if the OP's is like mine was, then the springs sagged to the point that they were always on the overload spring which gives the roughest ride of all. the AAL made the ride nicer. a year later i got rid of the AAL and went with the OME 2" rear springs just because i wanted even more height than the AAL gave. the ride is pretty nice too.

Hey there,

Please pardon my ignorance - I am a new owner of a 2ND gen 4R.

What is the preferred method of returning the rear end of a stock 91 4X4 to correct ride height? Is it as simple as new springs? Are there other considerations to be aware of?
