Add a Magnaflow muffler?

I have an 03 Limited with a 4.7V8. I am looking to add some throaty sound to my truck. I already have a Valor tip and don't really want a Cat system. A search shows that some of you have replaced the stock muffler with a Magnaflow and like the results. What kind of sound do you get? What model muffler works on the 4.7?

See the other threads on Magnaflow. I just installed one and it DOES have a drone at 2000 rpms. So when I'm cruising on the interstate it's quite loud, but the radio/road noise helps drown it out. At idle you can't even hear it. Sounds great when accelerating, but is much louder than stock. From what I've found, the Magnaflow is one of the more quiet aftermarket exhaust, at least for less than $100. I don't know what model I have but it's the "$80" universal muffler. So far I'm happy but it is louder than I would like if I had it all to do over again.
 
Well I'm on the other side of the train tracks and have a flowmaster muffler....
Seems like a lot of people who have a borla/magnaflow hate flowmaster, and anyone with a flowmaster, well they just love their flowmaster:lmao:
I have the "most aggressive" sounding 44 series, which imo is perfect and has absolutely no drone even at highway speeds. But I have a v6, and have heard my same muffler on a v8 and is quite louder.
So maybe the 50 series is better for you...oh and 140 for me otd.

You got me on that one! My Magnaflow cat system is on the way to me and it will be installed immediately, so I took the liberty of adding it to my signature a little early. Thanks for the feedback.

it drones hella at the worst spots. and if you have load, it'll drone even more.

plus, it'll never make your 4run sound like those F150s with whatever mufflers they run.

so the ROI isn't there. i'd stay stock if i were u.
 
Whatever- I have the magnaflow with a V8 and it sounds awesome. NO drone for me. Quiet at idle and on the highway. Gives that "V8" sound when on the gas accelerating or going up a big hill. I love it and would never go back to stock.

My mechanic talked me into the Magnaflow cat system and it is on the way. Getting installed Friday. Your truck looks awesome with the Icons and tires so you must be a reliable source.

X2!! I would never go back to stock either, mine hasn't given me any sound problems at all. I don't get drone, and I have mine turned down after the muffler under the truck. I purposely dis not want to sound like one of those terrible sounding f150s out there. Way too loud
 
look fellas, magnaflows drone unless you get the similarly sized as stock unit mufflers which nets you same as factory sound.

you guys are either deaf or in denial or don't understand what drone is.
 
i just find it kinda funny when someone replaces the stock muffler with an aftermarket "performance" muffler, remove the resonater, & then complain about drone, forgetting that a resonater, setup for whatever paticular muffler used , is what helps to cancel out certain exhaust notes that cause the "drone".

I have an 08 Limited v8.

What part number are you guys using for the Magnaflow exhaust? 15781? The one for the V6?
 
I had a Magnaflow 12586 put on, the resonator cut off and the tail pipe exit behind the rear wheel. I believe it's the 24" model, but not sure.
It has a more 'performance' sound, not loud, but sounds really good when you get on it.
There's really a fine line trying to get that V8 sound without the highway drone. Tough to get one without the other. I have no highway drone at all.
I do wish it was a touch louder, but was afraid I'd get the drone.
I'm pretty pleased with it.
Oh.......and I had the TSB done and still get the stink now and then.
