add power to a 4 cyl. runner?

I got a lil 4 cylinder 4-runner, bought it b/c it was a great deal and in great condition, and it is not my first vehicle. But it is a great truck to haul stuff around in. It is the base model runner, with 2WD, nothing special, but still a good truck.

was wondering if there are ways to add some power to this thing without blowing the bank. maybe a few HP here and a few HP there?

any suggestions?

On my 1986 4Runner with a 22RE engine I put a header on it, changed the camshaft, and installed an electric fan in place of the belt driven one for more performance. It worked too.
