Added Bilsteins... need springs next?? Still bouncy.

Hello everyone. I've got a 97 SR5 w/ 130k miles on it. I recently replaced the struts/shocks w/ Bilsteins. The truck still seems bouncy. It fails the 'strut test' when i load one side and let go. It keeps rocking back and forth.

Also, when i had the back loaded heavily (i was moving) i noticed the left side was sagging more than the right. When going over speed bumps and what not at SLOW speeds i feel like the truck bounces back and forth.

Are springs the next thing to make my ride more tolerable? Thanks again.

The best spring I've seen are the Performance Products 1" lift versions which are made by H&R in Germany and at $370 a set they aren't cheap but they are recommended with the Bils.
The OEM spring are a bad combo as they are too soft for the Bils as I tried that combo on my '97.

When you replace the struts, it's always a good idea to replace your springs at the same time. Chances are your springs can't react as well to your change in ride height as an afermarket spring. you are going to need a stiffer spring to compensate for the increased ride height. this will correct the bounceing you get with the stock springs. I'm not very familiar with aftermarket 4Runner springs, but definetly look for something stiffer than the stock spriing

I'm actually thinking about replacing the springs w/ OEM and going w/ the Toyota suggested Shocks. I'll ebay my HD Bilsteins or something. But i'll probably add those Addaco sway bars. I'm getting old. I can't take the bumps any more like i used to in my jeep. Thanks for everything guys.

i know many people with custom Addco swaybars on their Acura Legends, and they love them. It's one of the next mads my son is going to do to his Legend Coupe. Swaybars in general can make a huge difference in the handling of a car, and Addco is one of the best companies out there that produces swaybars.

Possible Recall on Rear Coil Springs

Hello,
My former '97 4Runner had a recall on the rear springs. My local Toyota Dealer replace my old springs. You can check to see if your rear springs has been replaced under the Toyota recall.
Thanks,
Leroy

I agree with you. Stock shocks and springs seem to provide the best ride. I did the same thing as you...went to Bilstein and then went back to stock.

If you don't off road then the Bils area bit much but the Bils coupled with PP 1" lift springs are a nice combo for mild to intermediate off roading.

Thai, how was your ride with the Bils compared to stock? I have the Bils, and it is rough.
