Adding 3rd Row to 5th gen

Possibly have third row seats for sale

I've just bought a 2018 Runner on an internet deal, and did not know until it arrived that it had 3rd row seats. I don't need them, but I would like to have the lower rear floor height that the third row seats take up.

I would consider making some kind of deal to swap/sell the components with a two-row owner who wants to have three. Vehicle interior is grey/black. SR5. Car is new, just some demo miles. Third row never used.

It appears the entire unit bolts down, and will come out as one piece.
I've yet to determine for sure, but it may also require swapping out the lower side panels, and possibly the second row seats in order to have the fold features needed to access the third row, as I think the two-row seats are not the same.

I'm new to the forum; I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has knowledge of this possible swap or is interested in doing it.

I will be doing this soon .. I already bought the 3rd row seats, up and lower quarter panels and the seat belts basically everything from the 2nd row back.

Got a great deal too ... $500 used at a junk yard. Even came with a JBL sub woofer...

Damn Wraith what junkyard did you get lucky enough to find a third row?!

Been using this website for years

Car-part.com . It's a national registry for almost all the junkyards nationwide... but sometimes you need to be creative on your search. If you cant find a 3rd look for 2nd row and front seats...

I'm attempting the swap pretty soon. One potential problem that I can already see is the mounting point for the seatbelts. The upper most mounting point (see pic) on 3rd row equipped 4runners has a nut welded behind the D pillar to receive a bolt. Mine has a hole but no nut welded behind it. Will need to figure out a way to properly bolt down the seatbelt.

That might be tricky. Can you get a nut in behind there?

or use a stainless steel rivnut? Possibly mounted on the back side?

Only thing I would be nervous about is if you are in an accident and actually needed the strength of that mount point to protect precious cargo.

its too tight to get a nut behind it. I may have to drill a hole to access that part which may or may not compromise structural integrity. I thought about rivnut but not sure if they make one big enough. ill get some pics up this weekend. Worse case, i can have someone weld in a nut.

I apologize but I have yet to cross this bridge... I'll post all my issues and updates on the my build thread and on here...

Chris what year is your 4runner ???

Thinking about it..

Just picked up my Red 2011 Trail yesterday!! Beyond excited.

I'm already plotting a 3rd row seat install. If anyone has a black, cloth third row and doesn't want it anymore, I'm interested!

Will do swap myself or potentially pay for labor to do so. Mine has a cargo tray, which seems like it would be pretty kickass for out-of-back camping/parties.

Hit me up!

Here’s what I ended up doing with the top mount for the seat belts. I slid a plate with a nut welded to the back down from the top. I then held in position with a secondary bolt which also prevents the nut from spinning.

Now I need to figure out the lower mounts.
