Adding a pix to your sig

Need some help with adding a pix to my signature. I have tried and tried to no avail. Can anyone help?

To your sig at the bottom or to your name at the left?

1) To the left: Go to the user cp button then select Edit Options then scroll down. It has to be a small pic, I forget the exact dimensions but it will tell you.
2) Signature: You have to post a link to a hosted pic (photobucket or similar). The moderators don't like big sig pics IIRC.

The instructions imply you should be able to upload pics to this site. I wasn't able to make it work other than the one avatar pic (on the left side).
