Would I be crazy to add a supercharger to a 4runner with 180k miles? My family has owned the car since new and it has been serviced religiously. I already have an upgraded tranny cooler. Just did the third timing belt service a couple months ago. Anyway a supercharger popped up for sale for 900 dollars and it got me thinking.

WOW what a deal.
I wouldnt worry about it. Our group argued about this for awhile but a few have already gone ahead with superchargers on high mileage engines and everything seems fine. I was initially on the other side of this argument but the fact is that the supercharged engine works way less than non supercharged.
example, Me and Steezemcqueen headed up Vail Pass, Me at 4500-5000k RPMS trying to stay at 60mph.
SteezeMcqueen, flew up without getting to 4 I think he said yesterday, correct me if I wrong Steeze.
Plus he gets better gas mileage.

Have a compression check and go easy on the boost. There's a Xrunner that boosted at 133,000 and he now has around 150,000 still going strong.

I put mine on at 185k and haven't noticed any problems.

Shon?!? Who is Shon?!? haha, yeah, I had to downshift to 3rd on both Eisenhower and Vail...
3rd gear at 5k rpms or 4th gear at probably 3k... my engine definitely took more wear.
900$ is a steal man! go for it! Does it come with the 7th injector?
I dont know about the injector. It was at a junkyard in Virginia. I called them and they said it was grey and the 4runner had 157k miles. Ran great, but was sold "as is." I think I'd rather pay a little more and get one with a known history. I think the motor can handle the supercharger great. What I'm worried about now is the transmission getting up there.

I agree about the trans. The torque difference between a supercharged engine and an NA engine is huge. A new torque converter wouldnt be a bad idea. And you might think about doing a top end rebuild with new head bolts. But if it was me I would slap it on and go (I enjoy finding the breaking point)

$900 doesn't seem like much of a steal, if all you get is the SC. With the SC you need to figure in another $900 for the 7th Injector Kit, $200 for a wideband AF gauge, and countless nights tuning trying to get the ONE spot from 13 down to 12.1 with no luck (THAT IS WHERE I AM AND IT SUCKS)

I thought that most of these run in the $1500-$2,000 range for exactly what hes paying 900$ for. new is even more. I thought most of these dont come with the 7th injectors and are still that expensive.
